Question about internet usage...

Can anyone tell me if just being connected by 3G or H actually uses up dataplan space or do I actually have to be surfing and downloading. Also, is there a place on my Galaxy S where I can find how much usage I have incurred? Thanks

I am sure being connected to the 3G network uses a few bytes of data to remain connected and sync as you move from cell to cell, but it would be so little as to be negligible.

To keep track of data usage, i use Network TrafficStats Lite - Android app on AppBrain Which keeps track of both WiFi and 3G data and telly which apps use the most.

Keep in mind that you don't have to surf or download to use data if you have set up email, sync or have any apps that automatically connect.
