Be sure to have a look at http://androidforums.com/elite-all-things-root/520236-optimus-elite-all-things-root-guide.html if you haven't already.

In there you'll find rooting methods and custom ROMs for the rooted Elite. There are 5 method listed in there. Read around this All Things Root area for reports and opinions about the methods (some depending on which version you have ).

If you do decide to root, be sure to take the indicated steps slowly and carefully.

Absolutely! My girlfriend just needed her OE re-rooted a couple of days ago. We're a community - if a method becomes outdated, we update it. Fortunately, any and all of the root method for this phone work just fine and will continue to, but be sure you read the directions very carefully

And, personally, I would recommend using Poot. Take a look around on the boards and, if after having gone through everything we have so far, let us know if you need something and someone will help you ASAP

If you do root I would recommend the Poot way since its basically a click, then flash CWM(there's an app to flash it) or TWRP(you install in CWM) recovery and make a backup.
I would suggest using TWPR since its easier to navigate (touch screen).

Thank you guys so much! Yeah I read all up on it before posting... Glad I decided to make an acct,and ask. the poot method is what I was asking if it still worked. ... Think I'm gonna root today! Which CMod is the best in your opinion??

Well I would guess Cmod 10.1 would be the best but all we got is CM9 right now although if you need your phone for inportant buisness best stick with GB. alot say Sleipnir but Elephant rom is my fav wonder what happened to the developer of that Rom.

Mmkay, so I'm loading titanium back up and superuser, anything else before I actually run poot? Ah! I'm so excited! I've always wanted to root a phone.

I don't think so. You might need to install Ministro but don't worry about that. I have'nt done it in so long. If you want back up you apps and text etc with superbackup. I always get nervous when I root a phone but you will be okay.
