So, I read up on rooting, and I'm going to use the topic:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html

and my hboot is 1.46, i've got 2.1 OTA

however, i recently did my first factory reset as everybody here seemed to praise it in helping fix random little odd annoying problems, but honestly, since i've done it, the phone is acting even more annoying/worse. first i had my crazy texting debacle (which i can't blame the phone as i think it was on verizons end..), but now i'm just having little annoying glitches, especially when typing out texts and noticing even more text lag than ever.

so my question is, since everyone here really digs rooting for the most part and says that it makes the phone much better/quicker, should i even attempt it? lol i mean i attemped a factory reset and it's acting WORSE than before...knowing my luck, i'll root and brick my damn phone.

any thoughts? :)

Sounds like you might have one of those "possessed" phones .

The only I can offer is a little pseudo-conventional wisdom that was bantered around here a while back was that if you had a good phone on 1.5, it was likely to be good under 2.1, and I think this was mostly true (and was is/was my experience).

Rooting my phone has been nice and all, but it was a good phone before I rooted. It is very odd that doing a factory reset made things even worse for you (and is usually the first thing that VZW would also recommend you do). I'm not sure that rooting will cure all of your phone's ills.

If you do decide to root, I would encourage you to read around this forums (sounds like you've already made a good start) and be sure that rooting is really right for you and what you want to do. Reaching-out like this is a very good sign that you have started to do this research.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

P.S. saw your "Location" a couple of days ago in another thread, lol...don't take that as a "sign" of impending doom :D

hahaha YUP. good ol' brick. knowing me, that's what'll happen too lol...

i'll keep looking around. i mean, i'd like to overclock this thing because it's so damn slow. it was fine on 1.5; all my problems began with 2.1 OTA. bah! and apparently now i'm able to upgrade, and i'd LOVE to get the INC, but they're now on backorder until August 3rd, and on top of that, the whole SLCD and AMOLED screen issue (i don't want the SLCD; i want the original AMOLED) so i might get screwed...ugh.

Well, overclocking will make it a little snappier--I've been fine with 710MHz...others have carefully cranked theirs up much higher (you just have to be dilligent about watching your temperature and putting in a temp failsafe in the overclocking profiles).

Also, ...DroidX? :D ...July 15th...I'm just sayin...

honestly, i don't like blur at all...i love sense UI so much better. plus, the droid X is just so damn big lol, i like the portability of the eris/inc

i'd love to overclock it; does it make text lag any better??

Not really much of a texter... I have noticed that the DroidX keyboard .apk (which works on the Eris! :D) is much faster and more responsive than the stock keyboard (or even Swype). You might want to try that... Give me a sec. and I'll edit this post with a link to the thread where you can get this (even for non-rooted phones!).

edit: read through this: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/109592-droid-x-keyboard-eris.html

I know that it doesn't help the size issue, but the X isn't running any form of Blur whatsoever according to the latest reports.

...i recently did my first factory reset...since i've done it, the phone is acting even more annoying/worse.

The factory data reset will once in a while cause a device to seem to deteriorate in performance, especially keyboard functions.

I have a co-worker who experienced that, so he did the reset again and things improved.

Also, the notion that "good 1.5 = good 2.1 and bad 1.5 = bad 2.1" seems to bear out about 75% of the time or better, I've noticed.

yeah, my 1.5 was fine so idk. i did a factory reset two times; after the first my texting was messed up so someone suggested i try again, so i did...after all my settings were setup lol.

idk, i'm still on the fence of rooting. i was looking for incredibles today, and i realized i'm not patient enough to wait a month to get that damn phone.

i just want SPEED. i don't want keyboard lag anymore. i text too fast for this phone, causing hte autocorrect to crap out thereby making my texts look like gibberish because nothings correcting itself. does rooting fix this text lag? if it does, then that's the one and only reason id do it.
