What a great phone. I am a new Moment owner coming from the Palm Centro. I just got my wife a Pixi and love it. I agonized for hours whether to get the Pre or the Moment.
I did all my internet research. I played with the Hero, the PRE, and the Moment several times. I talked to people that had both phones. I still couldn't decide. The day came to upgrade and I still didn't know which phone I was going to get. My name was called; the Moment of truth. "Which phone do you want to upgrade to?" Uhhh...? Me,"Which phone do you prefer?" She,"I have the Moment." Me, "The Moment it is."
Well, after 2 days and hours of learning, downloading, and using it, I made the right choice. What a great phone, one of the most underrated smartphones. IMHO.
I have played with my wife's Pixi quite a bit and learned webOS fairly well. For what she wants and needs the Pixi is fabulous. I love the Pixi form factor too.
While I feel WebOS is a more effecient UI and is gorgeous to look at, it seems to lack some depth. I hope Palm and WebOS keep coming on because it really is a nice OS. If Palm would have had a decent app market, I probably would have a Pre right now.
The Moment and Android seemed awkward to me at first, hence my hesitation. But after spending some time to customize it for me and download some apps. WOW! It is quite effecient and very customizable. I love it. Fart apps here I come. JK.
One of the main reasons I bought the Moment over the Hero was the physical keyboard. However, the more I use the Moment's virtual keyboard the more I like it for quick things. I still like the the PK, because I still hate losing screen real estate. It is nice to have the option of both.
I like the hard voice search and camera buttons.
The screen is gorgeous and doesn't seem to have the blue tint that the store display had.
What I wish it had:
1. I like that the Hero has a hard search button. I seems to take to many steps to get to search on the Moment. Any shortcuts?
2. I am torn on the optical mouse. I feel that the the trackball on the Hero was more precise. I am in the construction field and have dirty hands a lot. I think the mouse will hold up better for me.
3. Google Voice Search. I really was looking forward to Voice to Text. Come on Android 2.0.
4. A GPS that worked. I hate that I wake up on the shore of England after going to sleep in Washington.
Once I start adding more apps that require GPS like Layar and Locale, this could really be frustrating. I think this and lack of voice search are my two biggest disappointments with the phone. Good news is they both should be fixable with updates.
I love my phone and how it makes my life easier and more enjoyable.
