what apps should be deleted/dowloaded?

at this point you cant Delete AT&T apps unless you root... and if you do root you should pretty much delete them all lol.

as for free apps advanced task killer is handy, Paper toss and doodle jump are fun time killers. Although be careful if you have younger siblings, they will try and steal your phone at every opportunity if you let them try those games :p

I will let the others chime in with their favorite apps

I have just had it a few days, but here is what I have done so far. All of this stuff is free on the market....

Google Stuff:
Google voice
Google Latititude
Google Goggles
Google Shopper - can't get this to work yet...camera error
Google Sky Map

Other Stuff:
Mint.com
Pandora
Vuvuzela (moonbeam's version)
Shazam
IMDb
YouVersion Holy Bible <-- excellent
3G Watchdog

I highly recommend the 3G watchdog if you are on a tiered data plan. It helps you keep track of what your data usage has been. You can put a widget up on your screen that calculates it in real time.

Updates

Setting Profiles Lite - Allows you to change settings (sounds, wifi, etc.) based on different variables (time of day or location or time and location). Testing out to see which is better..
Timeriffic - Same as Setting Profiles Lite, but maybe has full capabilities (instead of the Setting Profiles being the "Lite" version? I'll report back.
Google Translate - probably handy to have from time to time.
Epocrates - Haven't set it up yet...not sure if it will be useful

Google Shopper - Doesn't work for some reason
Urbanspoon - Good for finding restaurants in the area
Yelp - Good for finding reviews on things

Games:
Abduction!

Here's a list of all the apps I have downloaded from the Market, all for free. I'll be updating this list whenever I find new apps, and including the updates at the bottom under Edits.

App Management

  • AppBrain
    • I HIGHLY recommend installing this app and signing up online at AppBrain.com before installing any apps through the Market. This allows you to browse and install apps FROM YOUR COMPUTER, over the air. Just find an app on AppBrain, download it, and your phone will automatically link up and install the app. Plus, the phone app gives you a complete list of all the apps you've installed on your phone, with the ability to uninstall them as well.
Internet

  • Dolphin Browser HD
    • MUCH better than Skyfire, Opera, etc. Very good user interface, fast loading, great bookmarks, and more.

Battery

  • BatteryTime Lite
    • Shows the approximate amount of time you can perform certain tasks on your phone depending on the percentage of battery life remaining (live). For example - at 100% battery, I have approximately 6 hours and 47 seconds of talk time, 4 hours and 22 seconds of web browsing, etc. VERY good, including live widgets.

File Manager

  • Astro File Manager (v2.5.2 - 7/14/10)
    • Simple and easy to use, but with many advanced features as well. Pleasing UI.

Messaging

  • Handcent SMS
    • Easily the best messaging client available. Tons of options should you choose to fully customize your messaging experience. Custom notifications for individual contacts as well.
  • SMS Popup
    • Displays a popup upon reception of a new message, customizable with three different buttons of your choice (like reply, delete, etc.). Personally, I use SMS Popup to replace Handcent SMS's popup.

Weather

  • The Weather Channel
    • What more of a reliable weather source can there be? Supports the ability to save multiple locations. Very detailed weather descriptions as well.

Data Usage

  • 3G Watchdog
    • Highly recommended by many users, especially those with a lower data cap. Live updates on data usage as well as customizable warnings.

Maps & Navigation

  • Google Maps / Google Navigation Beta
    • Both work seamlessly together. As usual, Google Maps is quick and accurate with anything. Google Navigation is VERY fast and accurate, although the beta's guide voice is a little hard to understand on the Aria's tinny speakerphone. Nevertheless, both programs perform exceptionally fast and without error.

Camera & Photos

  • Camera360
    • Available in free and paid versions. Very versatile camera app that (in my opinion) actually takes higher-quality photos than the default Camera application. Many selectable photo resolution choices. Various well-executed photo effect modes, including HDR imaging.

Language & Speech

  • Google Translate
    • Simple and straightforward, based off of the Internet Google Translate service. Many languages, good translation, with available text-to-speech option.

Miscellaneous

  • ShootMe
    • Simple screen shot generator that snaps photos anywhere you are on the phone with a simple shake. Great, easy to use, can hide in the background.
  • Google Shopper
    • Nice for scanning bar codes when shopping. Pulls up various product information from the internet. Recently updated (7/13/10) to fix camera error bug on HTC Aria.
  • UrbanDictionary
    • Just for fun :)
  • FlightStats Lite
    • For those that fly frequently, or need to track that significant other as she flies to a different country for three weeks :'( , FlightStats Lite is accurate and easy to use, with the ability to save different flight numbers. Even shows arrival/departure gates for most airports.
  • IMDb
    • Just like the website we all know and love, IMDb provides an immense amount of information on all movies, new and old.

All of these are free and available on the Market. Hope you find some of these helpful!

Edits

  • 7/13/10
    • Added Google Maps/Navigation Beta to Maps & Navigation
    • Updated Astro File Manager to v2.5.1
    • Added Google Translate to Language & Speech
  • 7/14/10
    • Added Camera360 to Camera & Photos
    • Added IMDb to Miscellaneous
    • Updated Astro File Manager to v2.5.2
    • Added AppBrain to Application Management

A quick opinion about SwiftKey.

At first I was quite disappointed. The keys are slimmer than the standard HTC keyboard so I was making a few more mistakes. I just didn't feel it offered much... until a few minutes ago. It seems once it starts getting your typing style down it really rocks! You just tap a letter then a word, it's pretty slick so far! And I was about to uninstall it!

Hey guys, I have a quick question, pretty new to the forum so I don't know where to head..but Handcent is giving me issues recently so I removed it (it's sending out old messages to my friends for no reason and wasting my text quota..big bug that they still haven't fixed since the last 2 updates)

So I was wondering, is anyone clear with how to fix the time setting on the Aria's messaging service or is it just a big glitch?
If not..then any other SMS app to recommend other than Handcent? I'm planning on reinstalling it AFTER they fix the bug. = =
