I cannot download anything from the android store. I am connected to the wifi and I synched my account (which i had to manually through settings because it wouldn't automatically do it). This is very very frustrating. Just got the phone today. I love it, but I need some direction.

Welcome to the forums, congrats on your new Evo.

Sometimes, the Market or the network path to it just glitches. It's a heavily demanded site.

Per Murphy's Law I can promise you this will never happen when you're bored and just surfing the Market - only when you feel it's important.

Murphy's Law, luck, karma - or The Man?

No one knows, but there has been one reported and scientifically validated case quite recently of one guy fixing this issue by going to get a sammich and finding the Market working upon his return.

Don't let it grief you - it'll come together, promise. If you're still having this trouble in an hour or two, check back and we'll noodle out your phone configuration.

PS - the proxy thing above is also obviously true especially if you're at work.

The Market does need Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Background data to be checked, but it _should_ warn you about that.

Can you send a test message from your GMail? The Market needs to connect to your GMail account to know who you are - if that won't work, the Market won't either.

If that does work, try the Market again.

A couple of people have _sworn_ that pulling the battery for two minutes (power off first) and re-starting cures all. Obviously, there's no way to know if that causal or coincidental - but after 5 hours, it's worth a shot.

TRY THIS

Launch the Google Talk application. If you are already logged in, press Menu > More > Sign out.
Relaunch Google Talk and then return to the Android Market.
In the Market, cancel and then restart download. If all goes according to plan, you should see it work on the second attempt.

i can't sign into google talk. and in regards to your second post: im gonna try to go into recovery first before i factory restore. but google talk wasn't working either.
