App-based security

I want app-based security.

If I lose my phone, I don't care if someone sees my contacts, or views my pictures, or plays my games. I do care, however, if they use my email.

So, why not be able to assign on an app-by-app basis what is security protected?

I should have to log in (a la Android screen lock) whenever I open my email.... but I don't have to just because the screen is asleep.

well.. if u go to gmail in ur browser and change ur password.. it will instantly lock out the person using the phone from accessing Gmail.

I just got my Samsung Moment a week ago after reading good reviews on Android phones. But now I'm wishing I would have just switched to AT&T and gotten the iPhone. I realize these phones are new and that hopefully new apps and software will be created to deal with these issues but before I get too upset, perhaps some of you can give me a solution to some of my possibly merely "perceived" problems:

1. I don't like that I can't lock my phone with a numerical password. The "draw pattern" option is a great idea, but very difficult to navigate when you are driving (I realize that I probably should try to operate my phone while driving but most of us do anyway). It is far to easy to accidentally hit the "Emergency Call" button on the touch screen. Also, I am more apt to remember numbers than patterns... Is there any app to enable me to lock my phone numerically?

2. The music apps are nowhere near as lovely as the iPhone/iTunes sync. As far as I know, I must simply drag my mp3 files onto my SD card to copy music over. I lose most of my album artwork, and even in some cases, titles and album info.

3. I like to have a reference sheet with all my passwords stored in my phone. I have had Palm phones before (Treo and Centro), and both allowed me to "password protect" my documents. To me, as another user commented, it is quite annoying to have to sign in and out of my Gmail account to ensure "privacy". Morevoer, I may be a tech idiot, but having all that private info "out there" on a server (my contacts, my calendar and my private documents) kind of freaks me out. Has someone come up with a solution for this--that is, a way to password protect PARTICULAR documents? If not, please someone invent an app to do so!

4. Is anyone else having trouble with bluetooth headsets working? Mine is a Motorola and loses connectivity everytime I step away from it or leave the car. All my other phones picked it up as soon as I returned...

5. Besides turning off all the cool functions (such as wireless, GPS, automatically checking for email, etc.) is there anyway to make the battery life better? It drains so quickly...

I feel for you and i am doubting too if a move to Android was a wise one.

Having just moved from a Nokia N95 which did everything and most things straight out of the box i am now faced with a device that has very poor security and a complete lack of apps to put that problem right.

I use to have Advanced Device Locks on nokia which could lock any app on the phone, including the main screen with a numeric password Always felt security should come as standard. Nothing even close for Android.

Battery function. Can just about squeeze a day out of mine with everything turned off. Advanced Task Killer helped me which you can google for.

Worst thing about apps is they are jumbled and quite often the name of the app has nothing to do with the function of it.

Maybe you can store your passwords in your email account, that way it's password protected in gmail.

I use keepass Droid, which is an Android version of the highly touted and popular keepass program, and it works great. Very secure and you can sync data between PC & Android easily.

You would rather have a phone that can't make phone calls.....
Have you not read all the complaints? My bluetooth works wonderfully, perhaps your headset is dated. The music app works just fine. Meridian app from market works great, with gestures even. You losing album art means you didn't transfer it properly.

Just password protect your device in general, and install an app like where's my droid or Lookout to be able to remotely lock your phone.

Local syncing.. I agree, this should be an included feature. It may be in the near future.

The 2.1 Update is set to address the battery issue.

Yes, the e-911 thing IS annoying.

It can assign password on app-by-app basis.

GMail and Messages are protected but it not bothers you with pin-code on every keyguard unlock.
