Under Settings>Application Settings>Manage Applications you have your 4 tabs - I've only found a few apps that "Move to SD card" lights up. Such as, Barcode Scanner, force close wasn't lit up so I assume it wasn't running and I moved it to my SD card, now it says "move to phone" -

My question, is there certain apps can not be transfered over? or do I simply have to close them first before they can be moved?

Thanks in advance! Just running through the checklist of things 2.2 does and remembered this.

Mine is working great but I just use a slider, no passcode.

Yea, the passcode is required for Exchange security or something rather. It works great for me until after 20 minutes when the "lock" kicks in and then I have to slide through both.

If anyone figures out how to fix it so that I can have the passcode with widgetlocker there will be 10 points in it for you! (Plus a thanks!)

Edit: So here is the dilemma, the lock screen seems to be linked to the passcode now. So if you tell it to require a passcode after 20 minutes that means until then there is no lock screen. Anybody else notice this?

Download "App 2 SD" from the market, that is what I used on my daughters droid after upgrading to 2.2. Just out of curiosity with 8GB on onboard storage why do you need to move apps to your SD.

man, I coming from a storm 1 and performance was all about memory on those things, I understand your point but just reading all the reviews about froyo this "moving apps to your storage" was a big topic with the update, figured I'd take advantage of it, I assume -

Example -
While support for apps on external storage has been confirmed Froyo (the Manage Applications screen is now divided amongst Downloaded, Running, All, and most importantly, "On SD card")

Well I after going one by one I got 15 transfered over, some rather large. But still is there certain ones that just cannot be transfered? I understand if they are system apps, but I'm talking about 3rd party market apps.

Yes there are apps that can not be transferred. It is up to the developer of the app to allow that functionality, then update the app on the market

I was just going through the different features of my brand new Froyo OS, when I noticed something very upsetting. In my running services, I found VZ Navigator chugging away. I have never downloaded this, nor would I ever (I am very happy with Google Nav).

Has Verizon loaded MORE bloated crap onto the phone?

unofficial way to test for bugs before official release

This unofficial release is the way most companies preview test the software they are planning to release.

With Winmo it was a tried and true you new the release was eminent

This release has to be the official release because root is not neccesary to install everything wokrs good so far so good

My battery drained fast but i don't think that is a bug just part of install and reinstall all my apps

Thanks to those who released this and Verizon and Moto looks good time to release to the general public.

I have read about the bugs in the other thread, so its not all just about a battery drain issue.

Not to mention since it is unofficial and it does jack up the phone. You cannot come crying to Verizon for issues with something not out yet. D.I.Y tech support.

BTW the unofficial was a leak as you stated in your title, is just that. For all you know you got the RC2 candidate and the final version will address other bugs.

I am not trying to knock the release or anything else. Knowing that the OTA update is less than a month away according to Moto's release schedule, I am going to wait patiently for the official OTA. If it was something 60+ days from launch, I can see the desire to have it. Technically though, applying a unofficial update voids the warranty of the phone. IMPO at $600 for the phone, its not really worth the hassle.

The verizon tech support you speak of is not really as good as you think they are just entering the Linux/Android arena

As for bugs i haven't heard anything major

Note if Moto plans on releasing thier OTA by mid september this is most likely it, coders don't go gold then release the same day usually it is within 30 days of the software going gold....

Be more optimistic enjoy the fixes that are here now Mine is louder exchange seems to be working the estetic changes are nice to..

Yep looks like it, "Navigation" came with 2.1 and works fine, why would they throw something that cost 10 bucks a month in there when ya got one for free? Unless its ridiculously nice, haven't seen any reviews on it, or the new one at least (this was pushed onto my storm back in the day)

I would imagine it's there from their previous non-smart phone users who used VZ nav and was already paying $10 a month for the service when they upgraded to an android phone. The are able to use a program they are more familiar with.

IMO Verizon is the expert in selling services to people who don't need it or rarely use. Verizon Premium Technical support is one of those services.

Verizon Broadband Services - Premium Technical Support

Flat fee to be able to get support for things not related to normal service at 10.00 a month. Looks like now, it was upgraded to $15 a month.

The problem was is, that it's a 10 month contract and not something to opt in and out on. So if your computer works fine and no technical issues, you were wasting money. In the end you probably only would use the service 2-3 times a year. Unless you are not computer savvy in the least bit, then it was your best friend.

One of the major upselling points is listed in the description.

"Professional service provided by US-based IT certified technicians"

Since all of Verizon DSL's technical support is now completely handled overseas as of mid 2008, they used the premium service to upsell American based support.

+1

I have no desire to restore my phone (sbf) and lose my settings if I need to get rid of Froyo to get future updates.

I'm sure there will be horror stories down the road where some updates can't be installed b/c of this version. I can wait.

FWIW, I'm an IT person with hundreds of beta Windows installs under my belt, but it's much easier to image a hard drive than a phone and I don't have a spare phone to use if this one goes down.

I hear you about the horror stories. Even when 2.2 comes out OTA, I am not even going to root mine, since I know 3.0 is already in the works. Either 2 things will have me rooting/exploring options.

1. I hit the near end of my contract, to be able to upgrade to a new phone
2. When the phone hits the end of Android OS updates. So I don't have to worry about a OTA update bricking the phone while I sleep.

I played it smart, I only got a one year contract, since I am well aware of the other phones that are in the works already and knowing a year from now there is even going to be better phones than that on the market.
