okay i have a droid x running 2.2 leaked..i installed the update from my phone..now i learn i can't back track to 2.1 from my phone..my x is all i have i don't own a pc..i was wondering if anyone knows if Verizon can install the official froyo on my phone when it's released? thanks to all.

Again it's threads like these that should serve as examples to the rest of X owners even thinking of upgrading to the leaked Foul update.

Obviously your options are limited. Have you tried to do a system recovery? You could try to pull a fast one on Vzw support...though i am not sure you'll be that lucky.

Also I have to ask....how do you own a $600 phone and not a computer....not even a netbook!!??

i didn't pay$ 600 for the phone.

I didn't imply that you necessarily paid $600, but nevertheless that is what the phone is worth. Even if you spent the initial $200-300, and in this day and age, I'm surprised you don't even own or have direct access to a computer!?

Either way, try to see if you can attempt a hard factory reset (note, this will delete all data)...

1. Turn the phone off.
2. Hold the Power and Home buttons down for about 5 seconds.
3. A screen with an exclamation will appear. Tap the Search key.
4. Confirm the selection.
5. Select Yes

A factory reset will NOT help. It will just give you a fresh 2.2 phone.

use a friends computer?

This is the answer. A friend's computer or a work computer - or a library computer, if you can find one that you have installation rights on.

Frankly, I think it's downright ridiculous that people are installing leaked updates when they don't even own a computer and clearly have no idea how to go back if something goes wrong - or to recover if something went wrong during the update. The ONLY reason I gave the leaked FroYo a try was because I knew exactly how (and already possessed the tools) to go back to factory fresh.

It's no wonder Motorola sends C&D letters. Can we please use some common sense here?

If you own a car and someone tells you, "Here, pour this into your gas tank. If it works it'll be an upgrade. But there's a strong likelihood that it may not work right, or it might give unexpected results, or it might cause your car to stop running completely. And if it does any of those things, the only way to fix it is to own a specific set of tools that you don't have."

Let's see, do you do it? Or do you recognize that, in all likelihood, it's not worth destroying your car when you don't have the ability to fix it?

I'm sure in due time after the official release of 2.2 there will be a download to manually install the official 2.2 to your phone. That's what happened with the Eris. Everyone was worried about having the leak, which turned out to be the exact same thing as the OTA sent out. Someone found and posted an exe file that Verizon uses that flashed the official version to the phone from a PC.

THANK YOU!!!!

I'm glad someone can agree with me. Hence the reason I was getting so ****ing tired of seeing 100+ threads created by users complaining about how the 2.2 leak borked their phone!

The only question is, can the OP wait that long? We still don't have a CONCRETE streetdate on when VZW plans on rolling out 2.2 to us X owners. Only the imaginative "early Sept." ETA that's been thrown around.

Honestly, I usually feel sorry for people in situations like these, but not this time. I kinda hope that if you do bring your phone into VZW, they realize what you have done and deny you a replacement.

I have to second that THANK YOU. There have been way too many posts from people who obviously should not be messing with the phones.

I have to say that I agree with this as well. I hate to see anyone have a problem - any problem - with their phone. But the issues happening now are self-inflicted. Returning these phones to Verizon attempting to get warranty replacements end up costing every Verizon Wireless customer money. VZW is just going to pass the costs they incur to us.

No question. Not to mention all the poor people still waiting on their devices to arrive. Apparently Verizon just pushed back the ETA delivery date on the X even further yesterday.

You post in a public forum, you're going to get a myriad of responses. Don't get all pissy just because they weren't what you asked for.

I don't think I or anyone else is being an asshole when observing that people who don't own computers to recover their phones with should probably not be the ones installing leaked builds. You can disagree, fine. Move on with your life.
