Hi all,

I am trying to decide on whether I want to get an Epic or not, and one thing that makes me nervous is that a lot people don't seem to like the Moment. A lot of it seems to have to do with how poorly it works as a phone. I don't suppose anyone has any insight or information on if there might be similar issues with the Epic? I guess I am just a bit gun-shy to spend that much money and end up with something I am not happy with.

Thanks!

Cad

I recommend to use the 30-day trial period to your advantage & make that evaluation for yourself. All reviews for the Epic 4G have been positive & most Galaxy S series owners (Vibrant, Captivate) are pretty satisfied in the forums. Check out some of the threads over there too. Its only going to get better once the 2.2 update is released.

No worries, you have 30 days to return the phone if you don't like it. Plus I think Samsung for the most part, makes very good phones. I've been using a Samsung Sync for 2 years now, and it has very good reception, speaker volume, and has held up like a tank.

I thought about that, the only catch is, I don't know that I will have the 30 days. My mother in Law wants a Hero, and I want an Evo or Epic, she is up for renewal and I am not. I am going to give her my hero and get an Evo or Epic with her renewal subsidy. If I do that, I don't know that I can easily return/swap the phone :( That's part of the reason I am obsessing about the decision.

What you have to realize is that for everyone who hated their Moment, there were five (or more) others who liked it.

I didn't have all the problems everyone else complained about with their Moments and I still like it. It's just I'm a technophile and love the Epic more. Tuesday I'll have the Epic and my phone will go to my youngest daughter. The oldest already has the Moment and she, too, loves it.

Anyway, don't judge this one on the past experience of another one; they're totally different phones.

Get the EVO because when you are on a plane people won't ask you about your EPIC. They want to know if you have an EVO. With an EPIC everyone will just go meeh.
Personally I'd consider that a point in the Epic column. Not entirely sure I want random people bugging me about my phone all the time. :D

Especially when my answer would probably lead to a rather ackwardly quiet plane trip...

Seriously? You're advising on phone choice using "wowee factor" as the criteria? Personally, I couldn't have a rat's arse what the person in the airline seat next to me thinks of my mobile. I'd rather choose the phone that works best for me.

your an idiot.have fun with your 30fps cap, cracked usb ports, light leakage, screen separating...

im glad my epic wont have these problems.

So not trolling at all, just trying to make a good decision...

Are those issues really big enough to be deal breakers? Is there a chance the 30 fps thing will chage? Or is it noticable onscreen? I heard about the screen lifting, is it still an issue? Is the light leakage the light from the buttons on the bottom? I haven't heard about cracked USB ports... that sounds bad...

Are some of these issue just the minor things that each phone will have its own issues, or are they a big deal?

MY OPINION:

No matter what issues are claimed to be "fixed" on the Evo, there is always a very fair chance that your phone is going to have an issue. HTC does not make quality products, end of story. If you're worried about the kind of stuff going on with the Evo, then don't waste your time with them. I've been through 2 hero's and 2 evo's, all with build quality issues and I've finally given up on them. Many people have been through waaaaay more phones than that, all of which had issues. Light leakage and cracked usb ports are annoying, but I could have dealt with those. The fact that an enormous number of HTC phones have issues getting dust under their screens is what drives me mad. It seriously is the most annoying thing you can deal with (except maybe the screen coming off >.>).

Anyway, as much as I loved the Evo, I'll be getting an Epic next week because I am sick and tired of poorly made products. Even if Samsung can't make software to save its life (which hopefully is not the case anymore) I will be going with them over HTC any time (because root>samsung =P).

Just my thoughts for whatever they're worth

dont worry your post wouldnt be/sound like trolling but i have a hero now and with the hero there was big problems with dust under the screen i got lucky and it has not affected me.the 30fps cap is a hardware restriction from what htc has said yes there is a way around it but i dont think it should be there in the first place i have heard a lot of people with cracked usb ports.the light leakage is from the bottom buttons.

personally i just dont want to take a gamble with htc again so im going with the epic.htc may sau the "FIXED" them but i doubt it the dust under the hero screen still happens even though they have said they fixed it.
