An app that changes 3G to 2G in sleep mode like Auto3G

I thought that not all phone support that. Or atleast I didn't think the Captivate supported that?

I believe the phone just needs to be GSM, which the Captivate is. I know most 3G/2G toggle widgets don't work on my Droid. Thankfully Cyanogen incorporated that into the Power Strip widget. And, yeah it really helps with battery life. I turn off data and sync during work, and barely lose any battery life throughout the day.

Motoblur has a battery profile manager that does this, wish it was a general Android OS feature, you can set it between 10pm to 6am to turn off data and then turn it back on again after 6am, and also can timeout data during the day (after 15min to 1 hour of no use). On my Desire I use airplane mode schedule for now.

However I see no point in wanting a 2G/3G toggle when the phone goes to sleep, what if you want to listen to streaming music or mp3s or want to stay logged on MSN/Yahoo/GTalk, etc. Anyways UltimateJuice/JuiceDefender is the closest you could find for that.

Oh found this http://www.appbrain.com/app/at.hyde.dod

What would the benefit of that be? Are you looking to save battery? If so, I am afraid this type of change might trigger more battery use than having 3G on all the time.

no, while not as powersaving as Wifi, 2g is a lot better than 3g - IF you leave your phone asleep for long periods of time. Switching back and forth from 3g and 2g constantly may drain the battery faster.

Unfortunately, it is not supported on the Captivate yet. I know there was a mod for Cyanogen roms that allowed 3g to 2g while asleep

Yeah, I've been looking for an app that will do this lately. Most of the time when I let my droid x sleep or manually turn off the screen, that means I don't plan on using data. Mostly I want an option box to come up to also turn off 3g/wifi when I hit the power button to manually turn the screen off. Then I want to be able to go into the app and specify whether I want data to turn off everytime it goes to sleep on its own. Ive already have the battery manager to shut it off after 15 minutes wihout use but I for one could save a lot of juice with these options.
