Hi Guys;

I am trying to update my Galaxy i7500 with the following tutorial:

http://androidforums.com/i7500-all-things-root/72037-easy-guide-updating-galaxo.html

I have installed the ADB drivers, and have gotten to the point where I need to start loading files onto the phone, however; I am now unable to mount the phone via USB. On the phone it says "USB connected", but the device does not appear in my computer. I should mention I am doing this from windows XP, so I was not able to follow the guide exactly, however the drivers did seem to install successfully. Currently in the device manager I see "ABD Interface > SAMSUNG GALAXY"

I have done some searching around the forum, but have not yet found the solution which works under XP.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Actually I just tried plugging my phone into a windows 7 machine which does not have the ADB drivers installed, and it will not mount there either. I'm not sure what's going on here since it always worked before, and I have not changed anything on the phone. When I plug it in I get the popup "device was not installed successfully."

Ok now I am really confused... I did a factory reset on the phone and I was able to connect via USB on my windows 7 machine. I turned on debugging mode, and it would no longer work... Turned off debugging mode, and it still does not work. Even unmounting/remounting the internal SD card, or powering off/on the phone does not resolve the issue. Is this some kind of issue with debug mode in the stock 1.5 firmware I am running? Is doing a factory reset the only way to resolve it? Argh!

Ok so I managed to get past the issue by doing a factory reset, copying the required files over *then* switching to debug mode. I also needed to use an alternative driver which was not included in the tutorial. Thanks for your help, I now have android 2.1 running on my galaxy!

Eclair, why Eclair or Android 2.1? :thinking:
When you can have Froyo on your phone, that's Android 2.2 with a working camera to take photos and auto-flash working also.

My suggestion to you is to move to Froyo. :cool:

Again confusion on my part LOL. I am running the newest version of Galaxo which is based on Android 1.6. I would like to move to 2.2, but is there a ROM with all the functionality working on the i7500? Camera, Wi-Fi, and 3G are all must have for me.

Well, hmmm...
Now for some review of GAOSP Froyo (Android 2.2) still nightly (26082010). With each build it gets better and better (cudos to Drakaz & co.). It's more responsive and stable then the last build. There are some bugs here and there, but it's still a nightly. Camera is working, of course if you don't mind having pictures taken in 5 MP (I don't :p ). With the latest nightly 26082010 camera also has auto-flash support (a big step if you ask me). Today nopy (gotta make him a monument) released the word that the recording crash is fixed and that means in the next version of the nightly, we will have camera with auto-flash and recording support (nice :D ). Yep, no effects yet, but I'm sure nopy will try to see if effects can work on our Froyo equipped Galaxy.
Wi-Fi has its bugs (nightly), you can connect on the Wi-Fi hotspot (free internet :D ), but can't connect to adhoc connection at least not yet (Drakaz is still working on it). Also some people can't connect to Wi-Fi WPA (you know the drill) protecting network. I'm using Wi-Fi only to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots.
3G works naturally, but if you are a Bell user you will and that is 100% certain problems with google gapps (maybe you did have some lokk in the posts here).

NOTE: I think that's enough for now, will edit the post if you have some other question.
EDIT: nopy fixed the camera recording crash, if it isn't the reason to celebrate I don't know what is (nopy deserves some beer :cool: )
