Cant make up my mind?

Sorry when I buy something I like to have a model that clearly stands out especially if im making a 2 year commitment. X seems big and reading about major quality problems plus hard to find. Inc seems to have even more quality issues. Fascinate not sure about samsung phones and the whole bing thing and whether you can get google search and google turn by turn.

You can get google nav and search from the market and bing can be removed by rooting. And if samsung may be a problem, you can always wait for full-on reviews about call quality.

Your assuming that bing isn't integrated into the OS. If bing is completely integrated into the OS to the point where you can't install google search, then rooting is not going to help you. The only way to get google search at that point will be a custom rom.

I obviously don't know or can't advise anything about the Samsung. But I do know about the X and the Incredible. And what you've stated in your post simply isn't true. Both are excellent phones.

One last thing. I'm sure you know, but where is it written in stone you need a 2 year agreement?

I have never heard of a phone that does NOT have an issue. ALL phones have some kind of issues, it just depends if the issues are things you can handle or live with. Look at all the phones, and see what each has to offer you that the other don't. If you're trying to look for the 100% perfect phone, then you might be searching forever.

All of the phones you've listed are with Verizon, see what their return policy is (15 days?). You can try one of the phone for the duration of the policy and if you don't like it or have issues with the phone, you can change it for one of the other phones.

Their return policy is 30 days. T-Mobile is the one that has the 14 day return policy.

Thanks Drew :)

So, Hawkmech, if you're going to get a phone and it'll be one of those...you have 30 days to play around...like try each phones for 10 days :D Well that's what I'd do if my carrier allows a 30 days return policy with no cap on (30 minutes and 10MB...anything over and you can't return it).

With the Facinate...you would want to see how well Samsung is at keeping its promise of updating the OS 2.2 in September for the Galaxy S line.

Re: quality issues and problems, you have to consider who are on these forums as well. The participants of these forums are mostly people who are either screwing around and significantly modifying the devices, or are part of the small percentage of people having problems with their stock devices. There are thousands of DX and Dinc users out there who are completely happy with their stock, unmodified devices, have no intention of rooting or hacking it, and haven't ever visited a forum to chime in on how well their phone works (because it just does what they expect it to). I have three such users in my office (2 DX's and 1 Dinc) who couldn't be happier.

It isn't just this forum. I'm also a member on a couple automotive enthusiast forums (specifically, for diesel pickups -- I love my Chevy Duramax!) ... same thing there. Most users there fall into one of 3 categories: 1) looking for tips on how to modify the heck out of their trucks or fix what they broke, 2) looking for cheap answers to random problems that inevitably surface in a small percentage of any mechanical or electrical device, or 3) looking to learn all they can about it because that simply is their nature (I fall in the 3rd category, both there and on this forum). That's just the nature of internet forums for enthusiasts of anything.

I kind of take the opposite view -- there are so many cool things about the DX and the Fascinate, it is hard to pick which one I'd rather have! But I'm gonna force myself to make up my mind next Thursday and pick one or the other. Can't wait!

My Inc lasted 4 days and then died. Wouldnt take another one if they gave it to me. Also can't see any other phone having worse battery life.

So no one knows if Bing can be removed? I seriously hate Bing. Gives a bunch of bogus search results. Can't believe Bing would be hard coded into an OS developed by Google? WTF is up w/ that, seriously?

I had the X and the inc and didnt have any problems with either. Im gonna wait and see about the fascinate and also you can always get a 1 year contract which is what i am going to do because as fast as technology in these phones is moving now and days 2 years and your phone will be extremely outdated.
Actually, it's not 1 year vs 2 its more like 10months vs 12 months since as long as you don't have the cheapest plan you can get an annual upgrade with 2year plan, although you have to renew the 2year contract. I did not know this last year when I signed a 1 year contract.

Yeah well i would just rather sign a 1 year contract so i dont have to stay locked down for 2 year. even with the annual upgrade you still have to continue signing 2 year contracts. Ill pay the little extra in case I want to switch carriers or whatever.

I have the Inc no problems what so ever. It was fine when it was stock and it is fine after I have customized the crap out of it. I plan on giving this to my wife and getting the Fascinate. I like the bigger screen and how awesome the picture quality is.

Other than the fact it seems that the possibility of better games can be made for the Fascinate, the Inc (IMO) is just a smaller version of the Fascinate. Plus you have to consider sense vs touch wiz. Yadda yadda.

On a side note I have never had a motorola, but a lot of people in my family have and said they have been crap. That doesn't mean the X is, but thats just my two cents.

I own an HTC Incredible, my friends owns a Motorola Droid X. Yeah, you're right, they each have major negatives.

Personally, I would wait until you get your hands on a Fascinate and then try them all out at a store and see. Each person has different wants/needs in their phone, and for me those are largely met by the Fascinate and not the Incredible or the Droid X.

However, my friend with the Droid X, based on what he wants in a phone, I would agree the Droid X fits him way better than the Incredible or the Fascinate.

Google did NOT hard coded Bing into the Vanilla Android OS. Bing was added by the manufacturer (Samsung). IMO, I think Samsung did that because they want to sell the Galaxy S lines in China, and unless the issue was resolved...I believe Bing is the official search engine there. Google had a disagreement with China beginning of the year due to the sesoring restriciton. In China, Bing's turn to show some spine - CNN

I had the OG Droid when it first came out and it was a wonderful device, but it was heavy and I never used the keyboard so I switched to the Incredible. It's been great and with Froyo it's super fast and really does everything I want it to. I just wished the screen was bigger and was hoping that the Fascinate would fit the bill, but with Bing and lack of Google integration, this doesn't look like it will be what I need.
