This kernel is 2.6.29

added items:
ext3 support for apps2sd
ext4 support for apps2sd
netfilter & iptables needed for android wireless-tether
RNDIS needed for android-wired tether

Kernel was built without modifing any code just the kernel configs. LG Kernel Source

This is untested but I had testers confirm on an older version without RNDIS support.

Download

This is a signed flashable zip from recovery.

Android wireless-tether does not currently support ally but this kernel should have all the required items. If someone here is interested if you ask android wireless tether to update code for ally which uses wireless.ko and has firmware loaders at system/etc/wl named nvram.txt, rtecdc.bin, and rtecdc-mfgtest.bin. It should work. Try opening an issue and list those file names and locations @ android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

I have a Motorola droid, but I'm interested in deving for the ally. I've thrown a couple kernels together for the droid, and assuming that all .29 kernels are the same basic thing, all that is needed is a few line changes in the .config file. Granted I just compiled kernels as a way to expand knowledge, I'm sure I could put one together with slight overclock, if I had a template of this one's config file with wifi tether support added. That is, if my assumption is correct.

Completely different arch droid is omap and ally is msm76xx. As far as overclocking I found some stuff (a technet apuclock.c) that supposedly oc's the ally to 806mhz but it resulted in a kernel panic.

In order for apps2sd to work, do I need a separate apps2sd application? Or does this kernel do it natively? Also, does it support ext2?

A little bit new to all this. I've been waiting for an apps2sd rom to come along ...

Its rom dependant. Using my latest recovery and kernel you can partition ext3-4 with recovery and using my kernel use ext4. Otherwise you are limited at ext2. You really need a clas 6 sdcard too.

I attempted to send a report to android-wifi tether team, issue 559, and the team there responded with this answer.
Please get the answers to me on this thread and I will add this response to issue 559 ASAP. I cannot answer these questions.

Hi! Thanks for opening an issue. We would love to add support for the ally but we need more information to do so. Please note - we don't have such a device available for testing. If you or anybody else can provide more detailed information please drop me a email or add it here.

What we need:
How to load the wifi-module? Does this work?
insmod /lib/modules/wireless.ko
How to load the firmware-file and which one needs to be loaded?

Its bcm4325

it should be

insmod system/lib/modules/wireless.ko

firmware_path=/system/etc/wl/rtecdc.bin

nvram_path=/system/etc/wl/nvram.txt
