Confessions of a phone whore

I've posted several (sometimes LONG) posts about my phone history. Often they had a comparison attached, or at least initial reactions. I'm here again to tell you about my latest thought process - or lack there-of:(

I've had the BB's, the Iphone 3gs, the Droid, Eris, Dinc, and now the X. The other day while sitting at my desk getting rather frustated with my X, a brief thought came accross my mind. I was thinking about trying AT&T again. Thinking that "for sure, they must be better now". Started to do some research and found that many are trying to trash their Iphone 4's and go back to the 3gs. Then I read a great article comparing the two carriers. Very neutral and very informative. The thought quickly left.

Then I started thinking about how to make my experience on the X better. Then I started to think about LauncherPro again. Well, I took a stab and downloaded it along with PLUS. Been playing with it for a while now and think I have it worked out. WOW, I really like it. I enjoy the versatility and the new ways to customize it. I also like the way it operates so smoothly.

For now, I'm content.... For now..... I think I may have to seek help on the issue. Getting too expensive.

This thread does not deliver.

this. i've had more phones than the OP and tweaked my android's infinitely more than downloading launcher pro plus.

he could have easily spiced it up by saying once he downloaded launcher pro plus he checked in the phone settings and he had v. 2.2 on his phone. and then he could go on to tell us this really long step-by-step process of how each of us can magically get it on our phones too.

If you haven't already done so make sure you remove everything from your stock home screens, it will speed things up even more.

The amount of phones you've bought goes beyond a hobby. If are starting to feel it's getting too expensive, then you might want to think your choices over. I'm sensing some buyer's remorse. Some people can afford that, and if that's where they want to put their money, that's fine. I'm guessing you ended up paying full retail price for all of those phones. But if you went from the Eris, to the Inc, and then the X, and you find yourself constantly looking to be content, you'll never be content. There will always be something better, and you'll continue to feel like you're throwing your money away.

yes, you are right... the thread was cut short by a meeting. Sorry bout that.

As far as "content"... maybe. I think the bigger problem is that we've come so far in smart phones that one would think the little things/issues would be easy. The laggy lock screen, multiple layers of settings conflicting each other, the inability to have proxy, the lack of FLASH, having to re-boot the phone due to a lock up.... I can go on and on about little things here and there.

There is no perfect phone, YET. I think the iphone is still a wonder of technology, the X and Dinc are also wonders. But being so close it seems to me that the developers are just trying to move TOO FAST for their own good. When my Droid was first out, you couldn't go straight to youtube with the stock icon/app. Little crap like that bugs me to no end.

It may be more of a personality issue than anything else. I want the best, the fastest and the coolest thing out. I don't drink, smoke, gamble or cheat on my wife... I spend ALL my free time coaching and enjoying life with my kids, BUT I like to have a good, no... GREAT PHONE. I haven't paid retail yet. they are always on upgrades. I've got 5 lines on the plan and there is always something that is ready for an upgrade. I've even sold the older phones to get back the money. In all it hasn't been too costly, but there has been a LOT of time spent getting up and going with each.

Now that I've got launchpro PLUS on the phone and working through that, the phone seems to be way more glitch free. Very smooth and very user oriented. I am now able to have some good options on screen setups and the ability to make some things more Moto and others more HTC is a nice option. Now, if 2.2 EVER comes out, that might change some things up for me, but I'm hoping that Plus still works in the new envirioment.

Google should just hire Fede to make the launcher for Gingerbread and then force every manufacturer to use it.

Really, it makes that much of a difference.

I was just watching some hands ons with the new Sense UI phones (Desire Z a.k.a. G2) and thinking, wow, that's a pretty laggy homescreen. Back in my D1 days, I would have killed to have Sense-like smoothness.

Now, LP+ just trounces it.

It only gets better with 2.2, I can confirm that :)

Apparently you don't understand how Capitalism in America works. You need to go to youtube and watch "The History of Stuff." Then come back here.

As a side note, my brothers' girlfriends' cousin (i'm being 100% serious even though it looks like LOL) works for Samsung. He works in sales and he says that they will always have this new technology to put out but when they contact the buyers (whether they are cell phone manufacturer's or tv manufacturer's or whatever) he will tell them about it and they will say, "No, give us one or two steps down from that."

Why? Because they ALWAYS need to have something to give you as an "UPGRADE" no matter how fast the "cycle" becomes. This iphone has a 5mp cam instead of 3mp cam...ooOOOooOOOOh!!!! This phone has 1ghz proc instead of an 800 mhz proc....ooooOOOOOoooooh!!!! This phone is 13% lighter 8% shorter and 21% brighter....oooOOOOoooooOOOOOHHH!!!

Can't you see? They keep giving us INCRIMENTAL upgrades so that we keep trashing our old stuff that works perfectly fine and buying the "latest and greatest." It happens with all electronics, cars, etc.

You are i just buy into the cycle because we are "good americans." If we knew the true value of material things (hint: not much) and lived our lives with CONTENTMENT instead of constant jealousy and greed, these phone manufacturers couldn't take us to the cleaners every 6-24 months (depending on if your self-control is weak or ultra-weak).

/soapbox

But seriously, i just had to comment since your post made it sound like you weren't sure why these companies were INCAPABLE of making a phone with all the latest technology without leaving something out. That is the scam. The tech is here, but since market prices are completely determined by supply and demand, once that price is set they only have to have components that COMPETE with their competitors, not ones that completely wipe them away.

Otherwise they would lose their cash cows....

I get it..... but the fact that the problems aren't farmed out early in the build process prior to launch kills me. They lose money at that point with staff handling the problems. If they were coming out with a new phone to fix the old phones problems... that would be one thing, But they aren't doing that. They come out with new phones with better technology, more bells and quicker whistles. Just FIX THE DAMN PHONE I HAVE! Me buying phones has little to do with fixing current issues.

Bought the phones for the following reasons:

BB = that's what we had at work and had a comfort factor involved.

Iphone = Cool tech and when worked dumped the BB, it was my first real Multi media phone

Moto Droid = AT& sucked BAD. Actually paid to get out of that contract and Android looked promising.

Eris = Better form factor, more Iphone look, and had some cool features (track ball)

Moto Droid = Eris was super slow and seemed to lack support from mother-V.

Dinc = Super specs, super fast, didn't have the slider keyboard, and looked fantastic. SENSE was a bonus.

Moto X = Screen size, processing specs, and even better form factor over the Droid. However in my opinion left the test bench a little to early. Could have waited and gave us 2.2 without bugs.

CURRENT... Moto X with LP-PLUS. Seemingly the best of all worlds. Mother-V's service and a capable platform with a little help from a developer who has his sh!t together.

Why is the google ad bot asking me if I want a girlfriend?
