Rogers releasing phone with CyanogenMod as stock OS

geez, I thought from the title that is was going to be an option. Sure I'd like to see it but I can't imagine it happening. What we really need is a proper outlet for buying unlocked phones with pure google on it. (cyan can't legally include the google apps) I can't figure out why the carriers do what they do to these devices but with all the noise about R issues we generally have it a lot better than most carriers down south.

I wonder though, if a wireless carrier ordered a phone from a manufacture with CM if the manufacture would put it together with google apps and submit it for approval to google. No difference really between CM and manufacture custom ROM.

I think Cyanogen would basically have to be hired by the manufacturer for that to ever happen. Don't know what the likelihood of that would be.

I very much doubt it. All of the big manufacturers have their own UI skin (Sense, touchwiz, bada or timescape/mediascape). If this were to ever happen, it'd be a new player that comes into the phone manufacturing industry.

I'd like to see a Vanilla Android device that could easily be rooted, possibly even from with in the settings.

As for rooting voiding warranty, why can't they just sell us a phone that can install other ROMs without being rooted? Is that possible?

I'd not expect the carriers to offer cyanogenmod, not for a second would they do this. But I'd not want one anyway. What we need is the option for a Euro model where you simply buy a phone outright and use it as you need to. Standard warranty like any other electronic device or computer. We can do that but it is an ugly experience, it took 6 stores and social engineering for me to simply purchase one a few weeks ago. And if I need warranty it gets really impossible beyond 14 days.

Don't get me started about tablets, another disaster about to happen.

I think what Google needs to do to give a device its approval is for the manufacturer to provide some sort of driver inventory for the items on the device, and allow people to install any updated version on whenever they like. For example, state "This device has
- 800x460 screen
- screen has touch capability
- Home Button
- Search Button
- Menu Button
- Back Button
- Camera Button
- Volume up Button
- Volume down Button
- Power Button
- External Message Indicator Light
- External Power Indicator Light

From that information Android would install appropriate to your device. Another device may mention a hard keyboard and a trackball so the device would be configured appropriately. Basically the same as Windows. Just have the device drivers hard encoded onto the phone, then the operating system can be installed and reinstalled easily. Is there anything I'm not taking into consideration with this idea?
