Root Stock ROM + after market kernel options?

Last night I rooted 2.2 with UnrEVOked 3.21, and I'm pleased that I have Titanium Backup and Wifi Tether. The only other two things I wanted to have were uncapped FPS, and some better battery life. In another thread, I read that you may use a different kernel without using a different ROM. I downloaded KiNgxKernel's BFS #9 and installed, and while I got the frame rate I was looking for, the operating system went in to super laggy mode. It was unusable, so I booted in to recovery and restored the stock kernel from my nandroid backup.

Does anyone have any recommendation on a kernel I can use with the stock ROM?

Also, one other question, I constantly see people advise that cache clearing is vital when changing kernels. I am only aware of Dalvik cache, and the menu option in recovery to clear that cache. I also read many posts that say clearing it is unreliable and only possible with a full wipe. Can someone clarify please?

Thanks guys!

I am currently using BFS #9 also and it runs perfectly. You can also try the king's CFS kernels or Netarchy's kernels.

Flashing kernels does not require a full wipe, all you need to do is wipe cache & dalvik cache. Are you using Clockwork or Amons Recovery? If you are using clockwork and BFS #9 is laggy then you might want to consider switching to Amons because there are reports that clockwork does not wipe dalvik cache properly.

So the lag may be as the result of an inadequate or faulty cache wipe? Interesting... I know you use BFS #9, your post was the one I followed to flash that kernel. Amon RA is an alternative to Clockwork, which I am currently using, but how will changing the recovery affect my current nandroid backups, SetCPU, or ROM Manager settings or options? Or will it be seamless?

I have the kernel in my signature and I had a full charge at 11:07pm last night and right now at 8:07am I am at 45% battery life. The battery use shows 50% cell standby and 50% phone idle. The phone was sitting on a table all night with 4G on and I just now took it out of standby so the screen has not even been on the last 7 hours.
Battery also shows up time 9hours and awake time 1hour 42mins. Looks like I have a good battery drain going on. I do have FB for Android so maybe that is doing it but I have auto-sync turned off so I thought that would disable FB updates.
The only accounts set to auto sync are Google (gmail) and Weather. Weather updates every 3 hours. And now I am down to 41% since I started this post.

Test the kernels and see what works best for your phone and activities.

Are you overclocking with SetCPU? If the frequency you set it too high, this might cause lagginess and reboots.

If you decide to permanently switch recoveries, the two nandroid images are not compatible so you will not be able to flash a clockwork backup with Amons. It will not affect SetCPU at all. ROM manager is not compatible with Amons so you would have to do all of your flashing manually.

Alternatively, Novox came up with a way to temp flash a recovery which allows you to run Clockwork as your primary and temporarily flash Amons to access the features.

The 4G antenna eats batteries alive.

I have SetCPU installed but not configured. I just flashed recovery with Amon Ra a few moments ago. I'll try the kernel again after clearing cache, if all goes well I'd like to flash back to Clockwork. Would you happen to have a linky to Novix's thread?

Oops sorry, I just edited my other post but here it is again: http://androidforums.com/1541158-post10.html

You can also use ROM manager to flash alternate recoveries.

Sorry to threadjack but I'm in a similar situation. I rooted with UnrEVOked 3.2 and installed Fresh 3.2 I tried to change the lockscreen theme but was unable to due to clockwork. I did a nandroid backup with clockwork prior to rooting btw. So I switched to AmonRA with Rom Manager. Can I switch it back to Clockwork now that I have the theme installed since the two recoveries are incompatible?
