Life post Swype... NOW WHAT?

He's NOT in the beta, so I'm guessing they turned off all the previous versions after the recent update.

He stated he was in the beta and swype no longer works.. I have had swype for about 4 months now with no issues.

about a week ago they emailed me telling me to upgrade.. Maybe thats what everyone is missing.

UGH! Tried Ultra, not for me. Can't deal with that shared keys business. Makes pecking out username and passwords take fo'eva! I'm already back to SlideIt. That at least has been more intuitive for me. If it doesn't know the word in it's inner dictionary I just peck it out hit the + button and next time it's there. I feel it is more like a swype/swiftkey combo. Perhaps it's just me, I dunno.

Man, I am happy about Ultra keyboard! I think it works as good as Swype and has more customization. I was having Swype withdrawals too...tried SlideIT and it just seemed inferior in most aspects. But, Ultra works great, liked the trial so much that I bought the full. Swype really messed up, they could've made a TON of $ in the market had they released a full version a while back...by the time they do now, no one will care.

I saved my version of shapewriter when I switched to swype.
I prefer swype but am learning to deal with shapewriter.
I may try the ultra keyboard trial a try.

thats exactly what i did. i like shapewriter and the only thing that i liked more about swype was the menu with the directional arrows and the copy/paste buttons. if shapewriter had that i wouldnt even consider switching back....but ultra is downloading now, so ill see how i like that

Why do you guys like Ultra Keyboard so much?

I don't know. I didn't like it at all.

Swype isn't my favorite either because so many times the wrong word comes out. I also hate that when the last word of the text brings up the list of words to choose from, if you hit send without picking one it leaves out the word completely. I can't tell you how many texts I've sent without the last word being there.

I bought the full version of SwiftKey last night for a wopping $.95 since I always enjoyed the beta, except for the lag. So far the full version's been good and I definitely find I type the fastest with SwiftKey once it learns my typing style. I often only have to type the first letter of each word to get out full sentences.

I am in the Swype beta as well, and just got tired of having to uninstall/reinstall and change input every single time I reboot. Sometimes I'd have to change input even if I didn't reboot.

I tried Ultra, and love it! To the poster above that didn't like the shared keys, you don't have to.. you can choose your keyboard. I prefer the full QWERTY also. Pretty much everything is customizable on it, and it makes far fewer errors than Swype. $2.79 is worth it for all the customization and not having to deal with the aggravation, imo.

I've been a long fan of Swype and got so used to it that I could practically text without having to look at the keyboard or hit the right keys and it would still get the words I was trying to type. Gave Ultra a shot after having Swype expire and while it's quite customizable and has lots of options, it's just not as accurate when predicting what words you're trying to spell and it sometimes comes up with words that are hardly even used at all. I find that you have to practically land right on the letters that you want or it won't get the word right. I've messed with the settings but find myself still having to correct many words which I didn't have a problem with on Swype.

For example, I just tried to quickly type: "What are you doing today" which swype gets right almost all the time, Ultra got: "Quay are toy ding tarry".

Important question...Are toy ding tarry?

I think Ultra has a great amount of potential, but it's not there yet.

You can change that setting. I thought it would be cool at first, but that was the first thing I changed. I like that Ultra is ultra customizable, but it ran like a snail on my phone. And it did not help that it rarely knew what I was trying to type.
I like SlideIt. I would probably get shapewriter if i could find the APK.

I am a beta tester of Swype, also growing VERY sick of the expiration, uninstall/reinstall, stuff. I invested in ShapeWriter, SwiftKey (full), and Ultra. I have all of thise plus HTC's IME mod keyboard, Vlingo and Touch Input Keyboards. My two favorite methods other than Swype are SwiftKey and Vlingo. Vlingo's is free, SwiftKey's was not. Both are accurate and fast. If Swype doesn't get their act together and soon, I won't be buying it when it comes out. Soon enough the BlindType Keyboard will be available and everyone will be saying "Swype Who?"
