How the heck do I get HD movies on my Epic?

Well, to do them from DVD's you have the easiest way I've found to do it is to back up your DVD's with DVD Decrypter (free online) and then use a program such as CloneDVD mobile to convert them to .mp4 format.

Keep in mind that there are PLENTY of free converters available such as handbrake (iirc?) that will do the same thing. If/when you get the programs, let me know and I'll give you more detailed instructions.

As far as downloading/purchasing them goes assuming everything is legally obtained .avi, .mp4, .dvix should all work fine.

There's always Amazon. You can download HD content there.

And no. DVD's are 480p. But the Epic's screen is 480 so they look great in their native res. If you were to output the movie to a tv over the hdmi cable, it would still be in 480p.
Where can I download purchase HD movies? Also, when converting my own dvd to the computer, does it keep it in HD? (720p or better)

dvddecrypter will decrypt (rip from source to your hardrive) an ever decreasing number of dvds. You may wish to consider "anydvd" which is always up-to-date.

You then almost certainly want to use handbrake or if you are a bit more experienced, ripbot264 to take those files and adapt them for your Epic. this way you will get the best result for a reasonable file size.

this is a decent guide to get what you want:

I used 1500 bit rate, but when I play it on my Epic, it says the bit rate is too high and results in choppy playback.. is that what you use?
