My main gripe with my Eris...

Is the size of the phone. The screen is dwarfed by the Droid X, Evo 4G. The narrow width of the phone makes it less than ideal in average sized hands.

But I do have mine rooted on XTRsense 4.5, overclocked to 768mhz. Rooting has made me happier, as the phone lags less and less. But it's still very small. There is no doubt I would take advantage of a future warranty upgrade if possible.

I guess that's what I learned from jumping on the android bandwagon fairly early.

That's funny. I feel exactly the opposite. I don't like those other phones because they are too big.

I usually carry my phone in a pocket, so those others are just too uncomfortable. They look like iPads to me.

I find the Eris to be the perfect sized phone.

I'm siding with CXXV on this one. Those other phones are just too big to be easily pocketed. Which is the main reason I got an Eris rather than a Moto Droid in the first place.

Did your hands get larger or the screen get smaller during the time you owned it?

Seems like an odd complaint, as you were perfectly free to try out the phone in a VZW retail store before you bought it.

Try installing the HTC_ime keyboard (v22_lores) if the default keyboard feels cramped to you - I have fat fingers, and it seems plenty large to me, esp in landscape mode.

I too, chose the eris for its size. If I want a larger screen, I can whip out my laptop and connect it with wireless tether from my Eris!!!

Get yourself a bodyglove case...it adds a little extra bulk to the phone.

I could possibly live with something the size of the Droid 1 or 2 with the 3.7" at this point, but I do love the size of the Eris. I would prefer to stay at 3.5" and below though.

Size is the sole reason that my wife has stayed with the Eris. (We've had to handset warranty exchange it 6 times since November when we got it but she's had it for 5 months now without any problems so 7th Eris was the charm). I myself own a D1 and would love if I could get the hardware of the D1 into the size of the Eris. I don't actually like the physical keyboard but when the android phones came to Verizon last November those were the 2 choices and I went for the better hardware.

I will stick with the Eris so long as it works. I still have until 12/2011 for upgrade, and I'm no phone collector!

I'm sure by then, Verizon will have HTC 4G phones, sooo....yeah

And yes, I did buy the Eris for its smaller form factor. As well, it was only $30. The Incredible was just weeks away, but I argued in favor of pocketing $170. I bought a rubbery casing, but I stopped using it after the first month. The phone isn't exactly slippery on its own.... just small.

When you consider all the features of android, it is designed so you need not bring your laptop. That extra inch of screen really would make it more comfortable to use, easier to share multimedia, etc.

Try out the Otterbox Commuter case. After I first got my Eris I found myself thinking maybe I went too small. I don't mind the screen size, just how thin it is.

The Otterbox case just adds a bit of thickness to it. Check it out if you want.

yup EVO and MotoX way too big. First time I saw an EVO in person it was sitting on someones desk with a case. casually walking by I thought it was some sort of digital book reader. Way too big for those who dont wear purses or baggy thug pants. even the facinate which I just got to play with extensively is nice and thin even with case but still too large for me otherwise.

B.R. (before root) I stopped in BB to look at the latest offerings. I probably had a pretty stupid look on my face when I asked the salesperson whether she had anything smaller in stock. Those things are huge. I'd feel like I was holding an iPad up to my head. I much prefer the size of the Eris.

The eris is a bit too small for my hands. At the time I passed on the droid because the keyboard was so bad, though they did improve it on the d2. But the eris's size makes it a bit harder to type on then say an iphone. I can type much faster on my ipod touch than my eris (im using the droid x multitouch keyboard). Some of this is definately due to the ipod screen being slightly bigger. My next phone will definitely have a keyboard (before the eris I had an LG Voyager and an ENV touch, Anyone have an ally they want to trade). The touchscreen keyboard is fine for short things, but it takes up too much space on the screen.

I have that case, and it makes the phone size just about perfect.

And I have large hads as well. No problem typing on the Eris (with what looks just like the stock keyboard on KoasFroyo35).

I was at a training seminar this week, and someone had the DroidX - Looked like they were carrying a paperback book with them (and they still had their laptop with them

). Made me like the size of the Eris even more.
