Help Link to file from main/home screen

evening all.

new to the samsung galaxy s and all things android so please bare with me!!

is it possible to place a link or widget on the main screen that will allow me to directly open a pdf file stored on the external sd card?

if not, is there anyother way around this.

Ok on a scale of 1 to 5 depending on your Android experience this is about a 3.

First congratulations on getting a power phone. You'll come to realize quick that this phone does almost everything. That said:

1. Get an app called Linda File Manager
2. Open it up and navigate to the folder/file that has the pdf file you're looking to link to.
3. Long press on that file
4. Select on create shortcut.

Now go to your home screen and you should see your newly created shortcut. If it is in fact a .pdf, when you press it you'll get 1 or 2 options to open it. Think Free Open Office is the solution that comes with the phone, however Adobe has [URL="http://www.appbrain.com/app/adobe

That has solved my problem perfectly, plus it only took all of 2 minutes!

Now a further question, if I delete the Linda File Manager app, will the shortcut disappear?

Doubt it, but I've never tried it. I'm thinking that since shortcuts are more a systematic function of the OS than an application it shouldn't bother anything. I'm sure that given the system icon that particular shortcut would generate is a system icon, (Hence the generic look) there's nothing to link it back to Linda. Therefore, delete the program and keep your shortcut. Although, you could just keep it as that program is a lot more useful than creating shortcuts.
