Alternative All Apps View - Multi Page

Hi,

New here - so Hi!

Does anyone know of a way to get your 'All Apps' screen to be a fixed multi page view rather than a scrolling list.

When it's a scrolling list, it's hard to find what you are looking for quickly, as you first have to work out where you are on the list, then scroll to the required area of the list and find the app (which is always on a different place on the screen as the list moves (ie sometimes it could be at the top, sometimes at the bottom, somtimes in the middle).

On a fixed multi page view, you only need to work out which page you're on, then the app you are looking for will be in a fixed place on it's page (ie always top right spot on page 2).

I appreciate that this is not a huge time-saving issue, but it would be helpful for me, and sometimes those few extra seconds why trying to find the 'messaging' app can be a pain in the neck.

Any help much appreciated.

PS I downloaded some nice wall papers so at the moment am trying out having very clean homescreens...hence using the 'all apps' a lot more.

I'm not sure if there's a setting for that in the default launcher, as I use LauncherPro, but as a side note have you tried the app Folder Organizer? I installed it a few weeks ago and have not opened my application drawer since. Basically, it lets you label any and all apps (and contacts, and bookmarks, etc...) in a manner similar to gmail. Then you can put a direct shortcut to any label/folder on your home screen. You can also customize the icons.

There is a free version of this app that works just fine, although I chose to buy it because it's fantastic. Oh, and it also lets you sort your label contents any way you like hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply.

Folder Organiser is a nice way of achieving a similar result. I forgot to mention that I have an HTC Desire so have HTC Sense running.

I was able to create a label for my most used apps, put that down in the corner of the 2nd homescreen so that my default homescreen is still nice and clean.

Was going to post a screenshot, but see that you can't get a screenshot easily without having a rooted phone, and not sure I can be bothered with all the hassle. I have a really nice background with only TypoClock on the homescreen.

If anyone knows of an app to get the 'all apps' view displaying as a multi-page layout, then let me know. Must be compatible with HTC Sense.

Tw Launcher is what you might just be looking for. You can source it out via XDA

Its a left to right scrolling Launcher that will allow you to set up what apps go were and on which page, kind of like the iPhone springboard.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be compatible with HTC Sense - although that may be a recurring theme with launcher modification.

I just went to Menu and set the sort to be alphabetical, it seems to be sticking.

Can you be more specific? I'm running HTC sense so when I click the menu button when in the all applications screen I only have 2 options - list view/grid view alternating button and 'share'.

Must be the difference between your HTC and my Captivate - when I click the Menu button I get the option to sort in various ways.

Was going to post a screenshot, but see that you can't get a screenshot easily without having a rooted phone, and not sure I can be bothered with all the hassle. I have a really nice background with only TypoClock on the homescreen.

My phone isn't rooted, I took those screenshots with an app called "ShootMe", if you want to check that out as well

Wierd. The app says 'must be rooted' and when I launch it on my Desire, it says it can't run as it doesn't have root access.

What phone/network are you on?

I have a Sprint Epic 4G (Samsung Galaxy S), and sorry to hear that, have you considered rooting? I've been looking into it myself but it seems you may have more reasons to make the switch. I don't know much about it, but you might want to poke around in the root forum for your phone to see if it's something you're interested in, as it would let you better customize your phone to fit your needs.

Yeah, I have thought about rooting, but I'm yet to be convinced that the benefits will outweigh the time/risk of doing it. My phone is insured, so any insurance issues and I'll need to un-root it which will also be a hassle.

For this thread's topic specifically, I think your original suggestion of Folder Organiser is probably the easiest option.

The simplest way to root and unroot - one click - try z4root. If you don't like it, just unroot. Easy peasy.

Thanks for that. I have an HTC Desire, and the link you posted states it doesn't work with the Desire.

FYI Go Launcher appears to be very similar to LauncherPro and has pages of app screens rather than a scrolling list (which LauncherPro has). However after a quick look I couldn't see how to sort them automatically (they seem to appear in a random order).

Neither are compatible with HTC Sense as they are homescreen replacement apps, however I've found LauncherPro to be well worth the switch. There is a nice feature where you can hide apps from displaying in the app menu which means you can have a much shorter and more accurate app list.
