Root XtrSense vs. Nonsensikal

I've been using XtrSense ever since I rooted my phone a few months ago. I love it and I'm glad I chose it. But I've been looking around at the different ROMs lately and I'm interested in trying something new. I'm really a fan of Nonsensikal. I like the look a lot and I'm interested in trying Froyo along with LauncherPro. But since I've never used anything besides xtrSense, I'm a little afraid to switch.

How do these ROMs compare? How do the battery life and stability of Nonsensikal compare to xtrSense? Does the camera work ok in 2.2? And how does the speed compare??

And since I've never switched ROMs, is there anything special I need to do or do I just do the usual wipes and flash the new ROM? And how would I be able to restore to xtrSense?

What do you think? Should I give it a try or not?

Thank You!

I switched to Nonsensikal from xtrROM. They're both excellent but I've made Nonsensikal my every day ROM. Battery life is extremely close between them and Nonsensikal feels just as fast if not a bit faster. The camera works in 2.2.

Before you flash a new ROM do a NAND backup. If you decide you want to go back all you'll need to do is restore it and everything will be setup just like you never switched.

Definitely give it a shot; trying new ROMs is 90% of the fun.

I agree with stagnation trying new roms is 90% of the fun of being rooted. I am a long time fan of XtrRom, starting with 3.1. all the way through to 4.6.5. I decided to try out Nonesensikal 10.8 a few weeks ago, had some problems stuck with it and now am running 12.5. Everything seems very smooth and non buggy. If you have never flashed a rom then just search around for the guide, if no luck or you are still not sure just post what you think you understand here and we can guide you through the rest.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll go ahead and try Nonsensikal since, like you said, trying new ROMs is half the fun, plus I'll never know if I like it unless I try it. You guys seem to agree that it is as fast and stable so I'll give it a shot.

So I just need to do a nand backup and then go ahead and then just follow the same instructions from xtrSense but this time for Nonsensikal?

  1. copy the .zip file to the root of your sd card
  2. From amon_ra recovery Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe Dalvik-cache, and Wipe SD:ext partition
  3. flash the xtrSENSE file from sd card
  4. reboot - first boot will take a while (i.e. over 10 mins - deodexed ROMs take longer on first boot)
  5. complete short setup and let your accounts sync

BTW, with Nonsensikal, is it overclocked by default? With xtr, I'm using Min: 245760
Max: 710400 by default.
Also, I don't need to have an ext partition with froyo right? Are all the apps automatically installed on the SD or what? What folder? Confused about that part.

Thanks

Now on Xtrsense you can have your sdcard partitioned or not. Apps 2nd or cache to cache. I have mine set up for cache to cache so I can switch between 2.2 and 2.1. To get your sdcard setup for cache to cache or fat 32, just partition your card at 0mb swipe, instead of what it is set at from the factory. I think 52 mb and 315mb. Dont do the ext2 to ext3 partition. This will wipe your card so be sure to back it up on the computer or use a spare card. Other than that you seem to have the idea of the flashing a rom.

Nonsensikal is 710/245 be default; you don't have to change a thing, if that is what you want.

If you are not doing apps2sd or cache2sd on xtrSENSE (in other words, if you never partitioned your SD card and turned on one of those options with the gscript), there is no reason to wipe sd:ext at all. And doing a wipe data/factory reset will also wipe Dalvik cache, so there is no need to do that. (Actually, to be technical, wipe data/factory reset will not wipe Dalvik on your SD card, but if you do wipe sd:ext it will wipe that as well.)

Nonsensikal, if I am not mistaken, is the one Froyo ROM for the Eris which will allow you to use an SD card with an ext partition. The others will refuse to mount the SD card at all if it is not a single, FAT32 formatted partition.

Thanks for all the advice! I've install Nonsensikal and I'm shocked at how customizable it is! Actually, a little too much so. It's confusing because there's so many settings!

Quick question, on 2.1 Sense I would get a preview of a new SMS message on my lockscreen at the bottom. Is there any way I can get something like that on froyo?

Thanks
