Help x10 Update or Downgrade?

Hi everyone,

usually I refrain from going on forums to debate whether a phone is handy or the opposite, because I'm quite a happy user of my x10 (or should I say was). It worked just the way I liked it, havn't had any problems with it. So now this Eclair update rolls out (I won't start about SE's worthless communication about all of this).

2 days ago I installed it, had a few problems but with the SE helpdesk it was all quickly sorted out (compliments there). But then.. of course I backed up everything before I updated, so after it was all set and done I put the backup back on the phone. It told me everything could be imported except for my CONTACTS, because that file was corrupted. So it saved all my useless text messages, mms messages and favorites, all that, but the one thing I did not want to loose is now gone. I know I'm an idiot for only making 1 backup of this, but lets forget that right now.

So okay, I'll deal with my contacts. Then it comes to my attention how SE changed the message-system. Instead of just having the messages displayed like an instant-chat message someone decided the messages now have to be in some sort of floating balloon kind of thing. That's all good, except for one part: if I try to open a message thread that has 1500 text messages in it, it actually takes a few SECONDS to open it. What the F? The old 1.6 version was way quicker and even better readable. Why did they change a winning formula?

Then there's to power button. You used to be able to end a phone-call with this, which, when you ask me, was the best way to end a conversation! No tapping the screen, just press the power button and put it back in your pocket, no big deal. Why o why do you change this SE?

I love some of the new features though, the 720p filming is HOT! I can't quite figure out what else is new.. I still can't change the theme color of the phone, it's still that ugly blue-ish / black-ish crap. Who the hell makes a phone in 2010 that doesnt have a changeable theme color? Seems kind of weird and outdated to me, but okay.

Are there other people out there with an x10 that have the same issues that I have (summary: 1.6 was actually better then 2.1?)

I'd love to hear from other users, maybe I'm missing something or being just plain stupid in the first place, I DONT KNOW, so let me know what you guys think!

Cheers
Jorrik

This is Android! You can change just about anything!
Messaging - Get handscent sms you can change the floaty thing in that.
Changing themes - Get a launcher, there are more now it's 2.1 there's ADW, aHome, Helix launcher, launcher pro, livehome, zeam and probably a whole load more.
As for the power button thing I never even noticed it's just pressing somewhere else hardly ruining a phone.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't even know about all of this! I am downloading handcent as we speak, hope it works well!

I've also never heard of the launchers, but that's next on my list!

Thank you!

PS: The power button doesnt ruin it for me, just a shame they took it out, I liked it :)
