Root Updating i1

Greetings,

I currently use a Motorola i1 Android and I'm pretty much a rookie on the rooting section.

Could someone explain how i could get the 2.2 version as well as a brief explanation for rooting if possible?

The i1 never got any major updates, and never will. I can't find any root support for it anywhere, so you're pretty much SOL on this one.

Aside from incremental updates like PRL updates or small patches, this phone will never get any updates beyond what it came with, which is 1.5.

Damn, I guess I'll have to give my co-worker the bad news. I offered to try and update his i1 to at least 2.1, guess he'll have to deal w/his 1.5. Shame really, it's quite a nice device.

Is that an official press release from Sprint/Nextel/Motorola? According to the Motorola forum (https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/314838#314838) Mark the forum manager for the i1 claims "@DNF

Actually the i1 has 1.5 infused with aspects of 2.1. I'm not up to date enough at the moment to know the technical details regarding the ability to update to 2.1 or higher. Certainly there have been some ideas floated around here though I'm not sure if they are accurate. I'll see what I can find out.

So technically the phone could possibly still be upgraded, Mark never mentions in any of his posts on the forum that the phone will definitely not be upgraded as you did. Just trying to keep the dream alive, that's all.

The phone can be rooted however no one has actually been able to port 2.2 functionality yet. Heres the link!

too bad it cannot be update to 2.1 at least. Maybe it would make the phone lag badly since it has a 500MHz/256RAM anyway
