Root Which Rom, yes I'm confused

Hey guys I got fed up with small internal storage for apps and decided to root and install custom rom.
I been reading all day and browsing around forum but I couldn't quite find information about which room to use or why x rom might be better than y so I thought I'd ask u guys about it.

I heard good things about CyanogenMod so I installed it right away, but to my dismay I don't seem to be able to add my google account and sync (I must have not installed it separately?) and I didn't like dialing UI either. Also a2sd+ needs to be separately added it turns out...

I'm thinking about settling for sense based UI with maybe LauncherPro on top. I really like how dialing and how sense integrates facebook pics with contact, but there seems to be so many sense based rom and I really have no clue which one to go for.

I'm wondering what people use here and why you settled on ur sense ROM.

I'm going to bed now and hopefully when I get up I'll end up installing an great sense rom!

I've recently rooted and after much deliberation I decided on Leedroid, it has ap2sd+ and also the Sense interface which I like. I bought LauncherPro recently as I prefer the dock bar, however I ended up uninstalling it. There is s dock bar mod on xda which can be flashed over Leedroid to give a different look, I'm just waiting for the developer to add the Android green colour.

I'm started to download LeeDroid also and just read this post. Everyone seems to use LeeDroid and when a lot of searches seems to praise LeeDroid people (inc me) tends to it can't be too crap. Please elaborate! I'm beginner and I don't really know what to look for apart from A2SD+. There seems to be no site where it really explains about difference clearly or Pros/Cons.

EddyOS sounds familiar, I think there was post on which radio is best to use by EddyOS?

There's no site to pros and cons as it's all subjective - what might be a pro to one user might be a con to another...you literally have to read the ROM thread and see if it sounds like one for you.

Personally, I like a ROM as close to stock as possible and then I make my own changes to remove apps I don't use and add those I do. The HD port is the best Sense-based ROM IMO but others obviously like other ROMs so although you can go on reccommendations you're better off just trying ROMs for yourself and see which one works for you

+1 for Leedroid from me.

I've tried quite a few now and have always ended up back at Leedroid. Started with Teppics ROM and that is a great basic sense ROM but I wanted to customise it more. Then tried Leedroid and stuck with that for a while.

I tried Defrost and a couple of other stock android ROMs and got on really well with Defrost. There were some things I loved and some that I missed like the lack of inbuilt FTP server on stock and also the notifications light on stock was tempremental and I could not choose the colours I wanted for each person etc.

I did love Defrost and will no doubt be back there as it was super fast and very stable. I use the stock dialler on mine so the only thing I really miss is the stock browser which is so much better than the HTC one. Use dolphin or Miren at the moment so not too much of an issue.

The best way is to try loads and stick with one you like.

Might give the HD one a try soon but have read that it can mess up your camera settings when you revert back to a normal Desire ROM. Can anyone confirm they have flashed back and its been ok?

How can it screw things up, and where did you read it? A ROM can't mess up the hardware as a new ROM has different drivers...

camera drivers are seperate.
not all roms flash the latest driver set for the camera. its been noted when returning back to a normal sense rom the camera has remained broken. (can be fixed via RUU)

as for leedroid, it is the most stable sense rom ive used that offers the feature set that he does.
Also his friend -snq is probably one of the best kernel tweakers there is currently for the desire development crew.
if it wasnt for him the rimxHD rom would not even be complete.
his leedrod kernel is extremely good, probably one of the best ive used in terms of power consumption and speed (for a sense rom)

-snq got the camera working for the HD port so I know who he is. It just seems everyone is sponsored to say 'use LeeDroid' - lol!!

End of the day its personal preference - you just have to try ROMs out. I tried OpenDesire/DeFroST/Oxygen and realised I HATE stock Android. It's SO ugly

I like Sense and it's widgets, although I only use the toggles and People widget. Hell, I only use 3 of the 7 home screens!! :D

yes i understand that but he doesnt just get praise for no reason right?
there are lots of popular roms on xda that are constantly getting hammered.

his tends to get more attention as he actively support it and tries to answer all questions.
hes quick at keeping things up to date and adding features people require.

If you like sense roms then tbh its "one of" the best if not the best.
Indeed there is a lot of bloat and candy on there but so what? it doesnt use more resource and happens to have on par if not better performance than any other sense rom with richardtips kernel so thats saying something.

Im not pro leedroid myself, I keep trying different roms as its easy to do. i keep finding myself going back to lees

Ty guys for all the suggestions. I tried 2 different stock android and UI was just too unpleasant to look at. Contact calling UI with no facebook image integration or just even phone calling menu looked just too horrible. I quite liked seeing how much better UI sense is and now I really appreciate the polished experience from sense!

I have LeeDroid's room and it seems to be very much like sense I remember and a2sd+ is working so I'm really happy.

When I feel adventurous again (in few days probably!) I'm going to try different launcher as I don't like how there's great big button on bottom, or different theme.

EddyOS, although I get sense u wanted me to try it all the reason I was posting here was because I didn't want to try all the roms and spend the time with no phone. I just wanted people's opinion of what they thought of different roms. I have to say out of all your posts, you last one was most helpful and I came to same conclusion.

leedroid also has launcherpro pre installed
if you clear default home (in app drawer) then press the home button you will be presented with launcher or sense

I'd say the best with sense would be LeeDROID - fast stable, A2SD+, drag and drop homescreens... everything you'd expect in a stock a sense rom but a couple tweaks here and there... oh and you can get the black clock which is really nice.

the best for just a vanilla rom would definitely be DeFrost - has most all cyanogen mods, and A2SD+ which is really nice... its probably the fastest and most responsive rom i've used with a launcherpro overlay.

best for sense HD would be RCMixHD, its not perfect, nor is the fastest rom you'll ever see, but if you really like the features then its worth a go. given that the camera works, its still a little buggy; the 720P option is not yet working from my knowledge.

hope this helps, cheers! :D
