Accessories The included earbud phones....

...are actually, really, surprisingly good.

Now, let me preface this by saying I've been a working musician and recording guy for 20+ years and I have been through a lot of headphones in my day. Most recently I've bought a bunch of $100ish phones ranging from the really great (grado sr-80, shure earbuds) and the really bad (the mid-line Beats, which I didn't even get out of the best buy parking lot with. Returned within 5 minutes). I recently bought a set of klipsch s4 buds because the shures were getting a wonky cable. Cnet gave them a great review, called them the best of the pack by a long shot. My experience was not the same. They sound very congested to me. Too much low mid. Muddies up everything else. I was willing to give them a few weeks to break in (you should always break in headphones unless they're just god awful out of the box (see: Beats), but when picked up the Captivate, I was pleasantly surprised by these phones. The buds don't fit great, but they sound better than the Klipsch. Really. YMMV, but I'm psyched that i can now return the s4s and have a good pair of commuting and exercise buds. I'm listening to them right now and am still amazed. These are worlds beyond ive ever pulled out of a box. Give 'em a try.

I've been using my TF10vi - haven't figured out if the mic works yet, but the play/pause button does. I haven't given the pack-ins a listen yet, but might have to give them a shot at some point. If they're decent, then at the very least I could leave them in the desk at work just in case I forget my earphones.

Did the mic on your headset work? I'm just curious because I'm trying to find a good replacement for the OEM ones that has a working mic.
Thanks

they are much better than anything apple includes in the box

I didnt think they were as good as the Klipsch s4, but thats another topic.

I was surprised by the sound quality of the headphones also.

Ear bud type headphones vary from person to person.

Its all about the ear piece sealing your ear canal from outside noise.

I had a pair made for my ear about 4 years ago and man they sounded great!!

2-3 years of heavy use and the wire broke off

sorry for naive comment - I understand custom mouthpieces in boxing, but custom earpieces? :) Out of so many in-ear headphones I have had in my life, I never even bothered to try different sizes of the ear pads on them, always used whatever was already stuck on the ear pieces. I use a headset always in a noisy environment in a situation where I do not care about quality. Whenever I want good sound I go to my acoustically tuned and isolated sound room with my Bose setup (jk about Bose).

That's funny I thought they were terrible, I couldn't even stand them in the gym. They sound so tinny. They are better than the apple ones that come with the iphone but that doesn't say much.
They are in-ears. You need to push them in to where it's an airtight seal to get bass. If it's not airtight you'll lose *all* bass. Change the silicone tips for a better fit if you have to.

I agree that they sound pretty good. Wish the clicker would skip music tracks forward/backward like the iPhone's though.

I also found the included headphones to be above average quality. I am a musician and have done some recording also and had used a good bit of headphones over the years, and I do find these to be the best ones I have ever gotten included with a device I have purchased. They even sound near as good as some of the higher end ones I use in studio and stage. Ive used them for calls too and have been told that they sound good on the other end too, even when i was in a speeding vehilce with an open sunroof. Kudos Samsung for including some decent headphones.

I don't know if everyone gets the same ads at the top of the page or not, but if you happen to cross the Westone 3 triple driver ear buds -- check out the price tag on those bad boys -- $399! Do ear buds really make THAT much of a difference?

Personally, no. I guess some people think it does, and they like to feel like they're using top of the line equipment, but unless you really REALLY care about your music they're nowhere near worth the price for the average person.

I totally agree, the sound is nice and bright and crisp on these included phones, rather than boomy or muddy. And, unlike another pair of bud phones I once had, these actually stay in my ears (snug). (At one point, I was forced to get some phones with those goofy over-the-ear hooks.)

Only question - maybe a dumb question - which side is left and which side is right? It's not marked anywhere. Is the microphone side the right side?

Better than iPhones/iPod in box ones IMO

Anything is better then the one that came with the iphone/ipod. I really don't know how people use those, they are hard and don't even fit in my ears, and I have BIG EARS!

I am going to agree with everyone and say these are really really good for free headphones. I am not a musician but I and an audiophile who knows how to spend money on sound. Sadly these headphones went through the washer and dryer so they are no longer tangle free like they used to be. But it still works!
