Hi there..

I was sending my wishes for christmas as an SMS to my sister. Then she replied and told me that se couldn't recieve MMS messages. I thought it was wierd, since I sent an SMS. I checked the message I just sent, and my phone said it was a multimedia message.
So, of course, I tried to copy the text and insert it in a new SMS message field. When I did that, it said "Converting to multimedia message".
This is really wierd since I haven't inserted any multimedia files - it's just plain text. Here's what I wrote exactly (It's in Danish, but you don't have to be able to understand it anyways):

Boxershorts str. L (Bj

The standard messaging app converts a sms bigger than 3 sms to a mms. Handcent also does that by default but there is a setting to change that.

Go to settings in Handcent then go to "send message settings" and uncheck the option "convert to mms".

Thanks for your answer :) I think I prefer to use the built-in sms app.. I don't really see how Handcent is better - I'm completely new to Android.. Why do so many people prefer it?
Anyways - can I change the settings for the default app too?

Unfortunately NO. So if you have to send SMS which are longer than 3 messages you would have to use a different sms app as there is no way to turn that off in the default app.

People may have different reasons fro using handcent but the reasons for which I use handcent are-

1.) Pop up- It really saves the time when you can see the message as a pop up and either delete it or reply from the pop up window itself instead of going in the default app to read the message.

2.) Blacklist- Many times there is a notification on the phone. You take out the phone from the pocket only to find out that it was a spam message. Handcent allows to block spam messages. Very useful feature.

Hmm.. That's quite stupid not being able to change those settings.. Why would you convert it to an MMS? I've got free SMS, so for me it doesn't make sense..
Anyways - Is it possible to change the standard shortcut bar (Phone, contacts, message, Apps) in the bottom of the screen, so I can put in Handcent instead of the standard message app?

That you should be asking Samsung or I dont know if it is an android feature.

Yes thats possible. From homescreeen click on apps. When the apps menu opens press the menu button and select edit. After that you can drag the messages icon from the task bard to the above app tray and the handcent icon from there to the task bar.

Thanks, I've been wondering how to do this.. :) There are so many features that I tend to get lost in my phone sometimes.. :p
But yet another thing - Now I've switched the standard SMS icon with Handcent - Can I rename the app? Right now it just says "Handcent SM" on the start screen, cause there isn't enough room for the full app title.
