Help I am ready to scrap my Hero

Well it is not my Hero, but my girlfriend's. I get frustrated just listening to her yell and scream about her phone. It seems to run really really slow. There is an absurd amount of lag between tasks or screens. Sometimes she just has to hit a button and put the phone down for 5 minutes while it thinks about doing something. I am pretty sure the phone should not be acting like this. I am surprised I couldn't find many threads about this, so maybe we just lucked out on a crappy phone. Any help on where to start would be great.

It has 2.1 btw

Yeah, a factory reset would wipe everything on the phone (stuff backed up to google or saved on the sim/sdcard would be safe), but that makes it a very good way to sort stuff out.

That said.... it's probably the texts. I've heard lots of people say that their phones slow to a crawl when they have thousands of texts. It would be best to remove them if here really are thousands on there.

If she wanted to keep copies of them, you can find apps to backup/restore messages or even ones that transfer them to your gmail account (it essentially turns them into emails between you and your google contacts).

What you are saying though, is that this is not a normal problem with the hero?

I can't say either way, since we don't actually know what the problem is. I was just guessing when I blamed it on SMS messages (since that's a common problem).

There are plenty of other reasons a hero could slow down, and not all of them are as easily identifiable. That's why a factory reset it a good cureall if you can't figure it out.
