X10 tested by FCC - T-Mobile Frequencies

Very interesting. Hopefully there are multiple US Carriers with this phone. T-Mo has the worse 3G coverage out of anyone in the U.S., and absolutely zero service where I live (Madison Wisconsin). Time will tell.

Supposedly, it could be released with both att and tmo. I hope it goes to tmo. They are less expensive than any other. Their coverage is flawless everywhere I've been in the west and south, so I have no problem. And the customer service actually helps me. With att, they put me on hold and send me into an infinite "must transfer you" loop.

I do hope they release the x10 for multiple carriers. That's the only way they'll get decent exposure.

has there been a US release date yet? i'm assuming not if it's not even known what carrier will have it...

There's no U.S. release date yet. There's hardly been a release date set for it at all anywhere. Going by SE's history, it might take a long while to get to the US. When it does, they seem to be making two variations for sale here. That suggests that they'll offer it unsubsidized without a carrier. That means sales will be LOW. That's what they have a history of doing with their smart phones, anyway. I hope they get both carriers to grab it up. I'd love to see it from T-Mo and see what different apps T-Mo and ATT put on there to differentiate them. There's also the official web site which states that the US won't get a version with T-Mo's frequencies, yet they sent one to the FCC with T-Mo's frequencies. It's like they don't even know what they want.

I just got off the phone with a t-mo rep. He said they were looking forward to it as well, but nothing official was coming through the pipe about the X10. He told me the sales reps were excited about the possibility of getting the phone, though. If the reps don't know....do you think that means it will be sold through SE only?

T-Mobile will not be getting this phone officially. The SE America site says the version with 1700 MHz 3G will not be available in the Americas. The X10a will be available here at it supports At&t 3G.

not surprised since earlier rumors from BGR indicated that it was heading to AT & T! sad to hear this though cus i ve been waitin for this phone and i am a t-mo customer.

Yup, your right, it says the T-Mobile bands aren't coming here which is weird because it passed the FCC.

Sony Ericsson - Products - Mobile phones - Overview - Xperia? X10

This really takes the wind out of my sails as I haven't been too impressed with the N1. I really wanted a the X10 and the bigger screen....and well, that phone is super sexy. If the pricing stands on the N1 as speculated and the X10 doesn't come to T-Mobile then I may just used my G1 until my contract expires and look elsewhere as I am pretty disappointed with their selection.

Damn. :(

It doesn't make the FCC testing weird at all. As was said, it is unlikely this phone will be picked up by any carrier in the USA and be subsidized. It's more likely given SE's track record to release a NAM 3G (850/1900) which will work with At&t only. This is pretty evident by the fact Roger's is picking up the phone in Canada. They use the same frequencies as At&t. Making this phone a lot easier to get on At&t unlocked.

As for FCC testing, the FCC tests every GSM phone made that has any spectrum support for networks in the USA. This is because people traveling to the USA from other countries might have the phone and the FCC needs to approve of it. So not weird at all, it happens all the time. Pretty much any phone released in the UK goes through FCC testing here.

As for the tmobile bands, it was hinted at when this phone was originally announced that a version with tmobile capable 3G bands was going to be made, but not for a US release, but rather a South American release on some shitty little wireless provider in Brazil which uses the same 3G bands. This could mean 2 things. 1. The phone goes to that carrier locked, branded, subsidized whatever and importing might not work so well. 2. It will simply be an unlocked smartphone picked up by that carrier making importing easy.
