HTC EVO 4G ads?

Yeah, personally I haven't seen anything that's coming out soon that can compete with the evo. I work at the sprint corporate office in kc and I work one floor below r & d, they talk about the new stuff we're getting all the time, and I can tell you that I will be holding onto my evo for a while. Love this thing.

really? R&D

there is nothing for 6 months?
no word on dual-core and 4.3"+ screens?

Until the new dual core processors come out, all the phones coming out right now will be about equal. Newer phones will have some better features, but I don't see a reason to get a new phone when the one I have is still relevant. If they are still putting the EVO in adds as the Sprint flagship HTC phone, then I doubt we see anything til later in the year.

A lot of makers have bet big on tablets so I expect the dual-core releases to come there first. They'll make it to phones later, but dual-core and other bleeding-edge tech and speed will be best displayed on tablets.

As for smartphones, I think we've reached a bit of a lull because of the LTE/Wimax/4G rollouts. Phonemakers want to be able to sell with this feature, and they're still somewhat limited by the US carriers. Tablets don't suffer from this because people don't have the same expectations of always on, always fast, gimme everything with tablets as they do with smartphones.

All that said, I don't see any new phones being all that special. I also think there's some hesitance because iPhone coming to VZW will have an impact. Not sure what yet, but it will be a noticeable impact. I definitely think there's widespread analyst underestimation of what's going to happen to ATT, which will suffer more than the expected losses.

4G is next to useless for me... 99.9% of the time I only use 3G. For one - 3G is fast enough for what I use it for and 2nd - 4G is a battery drain. I'd rather see more features in the upcoming the phones. I don't care for processing speeds either (Lower MHz, better efficiency would be ideal). I would rather have a better camera w/ HDR capabilities. And a better platform to sync media with other devices.

Good points. For me in the NYC-NJ-Philly corridor, 4G has been worth the wait (strong 4G coverage makes all the difference). It's a battery drain, but it brings the data speed and simultaneous call+data I've wanted. I expected to have to recharge frequently if I use my phone to basically eliminate carrying other devices. Since launch, I've taken and saved less than a dozen photos (I use the camera most with ShopSavvy app) and only demo'd for others the recording. I'm not a huge file transfer-er or file/data syncer. I guess I kind of gave up on that from any non-Palm devices because no platform, not even Android, has proven to be a great PDA-style device. They're phones first, I guess.

My single biggest issue with Evo has actually been the USB port, which broke on my original so I'm on my 2nd Evo. No reason HTC couldn't have built the USB connection better.

I see Evo commercials like crazy, especially during sporting events. I like the one with the Android walking and flying around all the quotes from articles and reviews about the phone. They are a lot better than the ones they first started out making that tried to be funny. Phone commercials don't need to be funny.

But the Evo is Sprint's baby still. Phone has been out for 6 months now and still ads like crazy. I have literally seen no ads on tv about the Epic at all.

I keep getting flyers in the mail describing how great the 4G service is. Every time I get one, I call Sprint to ask when it will be available in my area. "Maybe next year" is the stock answer. Hey, Sprint, don't spend the money on postage, and send the stupid flyers, if the service isn't available. You irritate me and waste your money.
