[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

It says he stops short of confirming Honeycomb is going to phones, but the Honeycomb design decisions are the future of Android. I don't think Honeycomb will be available for phones. I think the next phone update after Gingerbread will resemble and possibly use much of the functionality of Honeycomb, but it will be optimized 4.5" and smaller screens. I know they don't want the fragmentation thing to be worse with a separate OS for tablets, but with everyone complaining about how Froyo (phone optimized) looks on a tablet, I don't think an OS optimized for tablets will look good on a phone. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Edit: Damn, Crimton beat me two it.

Fragmentation is one of the big reasons many choose ios over android. If google wants to really get people to jump from ios they need to make a standard and keep all devices on the same version and not take forever to update devices

i would rather have two "like" os for tablet and phone. i love the "tablet optimized" it needs to be similar for sure, but to optimize for larger screen and higher resolution is very smart.

Yeah but look how many they have. i mean if they did it how you said have 1 for tablet and 1 for phones that would be different but they have so many versions on phones i mean some people are still suck on 1.6 while others have 2.2 and 2.3 If they could change that then that would lead many to switch to android

But thats just it... with this type of platform of course their will be fragmentation, the key is making it all work together. With windows we see this often, many computers are still running XP and a few run 2000 still, but no matter which your running yes the experience is different and speeds are different but you can still run almost everything across all of them which is what the focus needs to be on. The reason Apple doesn't see this issue is because they have 1 device in each category that only they build and they build the software for it, and they have a much smaller market share then say windows so it is much easier for them to push updates to everyone all at once. This is one of the advantages Apple has with their closed system and what users decide is whether they want to be locked into that small amount of things they can do that Apple approves of or if they would rather be more in control of their device requiring them to be more in charge of updates as well. The thing that needs to change with Android to make it more competitive and successful is instead of having the carriers put out updates Google needs to post the detailed specs on what your device needs to run an upgraded OS then the user goes to their website to download the update for their specific device, just as drivers and windows updates are handled by the manufacturer of the computer not Microsoft. In the end this will speed up the update process and get the updates to more devices because the biggest delay on updates of Android is the carrier the device is on and they also decide what devices on their network they are going to provide an update to.

Thats great, but what does that mean in terms of launch date and everything for everyone else... I want one sent to me.

I think he has said before, when they start getting test units, its 4-6 weeks to release. I will try and look in his past tweets.

Has anyone seen pics of the TB in Landscape view for home screen?

I know in the Desire Z Rom's, it had to have the physical keyboard.....

I don't see how they could push it just because of the Iphone. To me this would show that Verizon is more focused on Iphone for the future of the network and I don't think Apple could have gotten that kind of control on Verizon they aren't in the situation AT&T was when they signed the Iphone. Plus it would seem to me that it would have HTC focusing their high end phones towards other carriers because Verizon has already dumped the Merge when it was right at the finish for the D2 R2D2 edition and pushing back this phone wrecking its sales putting it so close to the Bionic. So I don't see how Verizon could win by pushing it back and adding either the view of favorite-ism towards Apple or the disregard for HTC and their products. Anyone else's thoughts on this?

Based on BMX's blog and a little poem he wrote, I'm willing to venture a guess that the Tbolt will possibly be available in mid March-ish.

Actually, I took the poem to mean there will be a dual core running Android released at the end of April. I'm not sure how you could connect the TBolt release to that when it clearly won't have a dual core.

Could he be referring to the Bionic? Or could be something else?

Dang him and his riddles!

After reading it you see the antenna comment as a shot at Apple, so after February 10th.... then you hear the reference to thunder so the Thunderbolt and "when the color green is all you see and they speak of pots of gold" St. Patrick's day so Thunderbolt around St. Patrick's day. Then it says "For if you wait but a scant till after the passover event" that is referring to Easter so you will find the dual core phone around easter and the only dual core phone coming to Verizon presently is the Bionic. But I don't know how accurate his predictions are because I have heard more towards February for the Thunderbolt and 4-6 weeks with testers would lead to a release mid February where as if it was mid March as he says that would be around 9 weeks with testers which is insane.

To me, the first part rings of March and the second of April. Kind of makes sense to me: iFruit in Feb, Thunder in March and Bionic in April. One phone per month. But that's just me.

it is annoying that they seem to be taking a preference to giving the iphone a head start. that's probably because vzw and apple know that the only way to get significant iphone sales is to make it available before the LTE androids.

i hope vzw doesn't turn into apple's b!tch and start putting android second to everything apple. that would suck!

I am not mad, but the reality is that the iPhone will produce big numbers for VZW. Period. Regardless of what other phones are on the market.

True, and realistically, it is a smart move for verizon. Verizon, as well as all businesses, want to appeal to the majority of the people. I can tell you that so many more people want an iPhone than Androids. Its business people.

I disagree with you there, saying there is a decent enough percentage of people who want an Iphone for them to want it on their network makes perfect sense and is true. Saying that MORE people want Iphone than want Android phones is very biased and uneducated assumptions. Android phones out sold Iphones by a lot this last year and are adding a lot to their lineup including 4g LTE and form factors to fit any individuals preferences and needs. Iphone on Verizon will do well don't get me wrong, but a big majority of the "must have" Iphone fanatics switched to AT&T long ago to get their phone and will most likely at least wait until an LTE Iphone 5 is launched on Verizon OR their contract comes up whichever comes first. That being said although there is a portion of people who have been holding out for the Verizon Iphone that portion has been split some recently into; people who have converted and now love the open and growing platform that is Android, those who will get the Iphone as soon as it launches, those who will get an Iphone when their contract is up, those who will wait till this summer when inevitably the Iphone 5 will be announced to see if a Verizon LTE version is in the works to get that, and those who require global roaming that the Iphone 4 on verizon won't be able to do. So the Iphone 4 won't do that huge of a dent in initial sales, nor can you say it is desired over the Android platform that is more tailored to the individual rather than mass appeal. Long ago Microsoft proved to the world that people want an open platform that is more tailored to fit them with Windows now covering 80% of the market for computers. People are catching on and the way I see it is; the people who want the simple straight forward touch and go experience will look at both Iphone and Android phones and make a decision, and the people who want to control their device, the form factor, the software, the accessories, the settings, the amount of memory, and the battery will most likely go with Android because the open platform opens more than just the software, it opens everything to a point so that more innovation and tailored ideas come to the table.

The non-technical people will get a iphone. My dad called me today and said hey I am going to get the Iphone, I said no your not. He said it's just like my itouch but with a phone, right? Why would I want to learn something new, buy same apps etc all over again? I agreed, told him to get a iPhone.

My son, who is 10 is already saving for the iphone (he thinks he is getting one soon). I my case, I would certainly have him get an iphone, he knows it, he uses his ipod all most as much as I use my DINC. He may change his mind, but there are probably millions waiting for this phone.....

I guess what I am saying is most people are familiar with it and that is the market VZW is after, not us smart ones..... :)

It will out sell android the first few months. VZW has done its work in terms of bringing to market, research is key. I mean they will do well even without LTE.

As far as the Thunderbolt (I am not longer use DOLT / TB - LOL) I can not wait, I am thinking late FEB/MARCH for release.
