Root To go Froyo, or not to go Froyo, that is the question

Ok before I flash to 2.2 I want to see if I could get some clarification:

Right now I am running voodoo on a DJ05 radio. So should I disable voodoo and flash the all in one dI01? (and for disabling voodoo, do i just disable the lagfix or do i have to set the system lagfix to off as well)? Next question is should I run the DJ05 radio or the DL09 radio?

From there I see two paths (assuming flashing back to DI01 and installing newer radio):
1) Push old CWM through odin
2) Boot into recovery
3) Wipe data
4) Install DL30 leak (includes the ROM and kernel)
5) Install new CWM
6) Make backup
7) Good to go!

Second option is:
1) Push old CWM through odin
2) Boot into recovery
3) Wipe data
4) Here is my question: Does Super Clean 0.7 have both the ROM and kernel or do I have to install the DL30 full leak first and then flash 0.7?
5) 0.7 has the new CWM so I don't have to push it through odin
6) Make backup
7) Good to go!

I am assuming that the new CWM works exactly the same as the old correct? Do I need to create a new update.zip through ROM manager or will the old one work for the new CWM?

Thanks!

From what I understand you have to have either DJ05 or DL09 in order to have a functional Froyo experience with DL30 cause DI01 doesn't seem to work. I'm also running DJ05 Voodoo and have so far only disabled lagfix, not the /system lagfix and am wondering if that needs to be disabled too. Also I'd like to know which recovery I should run Nandroid backup in prior to flashing.DL30.

Yea, I was hoping that someone would get back to me because I would really like to try it out, but don't want to screw things up and cause me to have to go through more steps.

Ok I am officially done trying to load DL30 as it sits.

I've done everything, this time I did a complete wipe of everything, went back to the DI01 restore all in one. Verified it had reflashed, I was BONE stock DI01. Odin again, DL09 flash - verified success, sitting at complete stock DL09. Loaded DJ05-DL09 old CWM, booted into recovery, applied DL30_Leak.zip. Did not reboot, immediately installed NEW CWM for the .32 kernel. Booted into what looked like a functioning FroYo, again with no data, no google account, nothing. Set it up from scratch and....

(wait for it, it's good).....

Everything is bone stock (minus su) and still this phone freezes randomly, freaks out, I can't do JACK with this phone because MyFiles won't load - it black screens and freezes. The market won't load so I can't d/l OI File Manager or any other app to view/install my saved apks, primarily TiB to get my OTHER apps back. Market loads the accept screen, then the home screen. It's the OLD market, and every time I try to search for an app or go to My Downloads, it just sits there and spins. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

There isn't anything else that I can see to try. I went back to BONE STOCK DI01 and verified it. BONE STOCK DL09 and no problem... BONE STOCK DL30 and it's garbage. Can't even get a decent sync or market app, or even stock Sammy apps to work properly. I have everything I need sitting on my SD card, and I can't even access it once I boot into FroYo. Phone has been wiped, reformatted and restored to unrooted factory stock and it still won't load properly.

Please be clear, I'm no noob here - I've been flashing and modding phones for years, starting with winMo and BB's, I thrashed my Eris but good on a regular basis for a solid year. I'm running rooted, debing'd and debloated with adryn's 12.30uv Non Voodoo kernal for DL09, and none of this is a really all that hard. This is a whole 'nother beast!

For those of you with a great FroYo experience, I am thrilled. Just having this opens so many doors for the devs. But I'm done screwing with this now. I may try to flash Adryn's .8 SuperClean while I'm still out of commission, but the stripped SNS stuff really impacts the way I run my phone. I can live without FB pictures/contact sync IF everything else was 100%. We'll see - I'll post back in a few with my results.

But I ain't holding my breath hoping for a miracle here.... :(

Yep, pretty much what I expected. Seriously, it's starting to look like there is some sort of problem with my Google account. Anything that requires sync'ing or my account info (like Market) just hangs... Gmail is taking upwards of 10-15 minutes to load, Market is hanging, and my calendar STILL will not sync or show up no matter what I do. I'm switched thru about 4 different Androids and it's NEVER taken this long to get my info onto the device, even on my sad old Eris, it never took longer than 5 minutes to get my contacts, gmail, and market stuff locked in.

If it's just that silly MyFiles app, then I might be OK with this, but without a successful Market I'm stuck with no apps and no TiB to restore them without a file manager.

Frustrated.

Well I think I've traced this to my same recurring calendar sync problem. For whatever reason, when I switched from my Eris to the SF, my calendar would never sync... I chalked it up to Sammy's buggy oem software (since it had never been an issue before on any phone) but now it appears that something is gummed up in the sync conduit. As soon as I disable "calendar" under my sync settings, the phone starts flying, the "sync" icon disappears and the phone acts right. If I enable it, the sync icon never goes away, market freezes, and the entire suite of gApps all go nutso.

I guess at some point, I have to try exporting my calendar, clearing it, then re-importing. Awesome, I'm really looking forward to that... it's only about 7 years worth of entries and my entire life and business. I mean, what could go wrong..... :/

The good news is, I'm rocking SuperClean 0.8!!! And it's sweet. :D

I'm having a difficult time deciding whether I want to jump on DL30 as well. Before the two aosp versions started getting developed I would have been thrilled to flash this leak...now I won't be satisfied with anything less than a fully functional aosp build. Guess I have some more waiting to do:o

Oooooh, Adryn packed up a TW pack that includes the Facebook and SNS TW stuff!

That plus the reboot, recovery, and other power/boot options make this totally doable. I just flashed it in there and BAM now I have FB sync!

Adryn is the man. No doubt.

Saps, thx for at least following my issues, I certainly do appreciate it!

Recent supercurio tweet:
@guapozx Voodoo sound for Vibrant is in the works, even without sources or custom kernels.
If he can add the sound stuff by injection to their stock TW Froyo, then ours can't be far behind. Yay!

I had trouble going to DL30. My voodoo, even though it had been diabled decided to show it's ugly face in DL30 and make my internal memory be 0.0. Fun ensued and I did full odin DI01 -> odin DL09 -> New CWM - > Flash DL30 and now it's running very smoothly.

The only issue I ran into was the stock email program (not gmail) saying 'message too long'. I fixed that by removing it in Root Explorer and reinstalling a stock email.apk.

Hey nit, do you mind taking a look at my post a few posts up about what steps that I need to take to flash DL30. I want to make sure I understand it before taking the next step.

Thanks!

push the all in one dio1, it ll kill voodo for you...then follow your 2nd set of steps...adryns super clean 0.8 has new recovery built in so use that

Ha, yea I didn't even think of having the all in one kill voodoo for me, good call. Should I flash the DJ05 or the DL09 radio? Right now I am using DJ05, but if DL09 is going to be more supported I could always switch to that.

I do have to push the old CWM as well after I flash the all in one correct? That way I can wipe data and install the zip files for froyo, right? I am also assuming that adryns super clean is both the ROM and kernel, is that correct?

Do any of your themes work with adryns super clean since he removed TW? Also, will there eventually be a DL30 radio to push or will DL09 be around to stay?

Thanks again for the help. I will probably do this tonight.

yeah you need some form of clockwork recovery from odin to flash the new stuff as its all update.zip format...id use the dl09 radio personally with it...and my themes for dl30 work fine with adryns super clean...just done flash dj05 themes or something

So should I delete my update.zip file on my SD card and then when I push CWM back on have it create a new one? Or will it just overwrite the one that I have?

dont delete the update.zip, it ll just get overwritten...no point in screwing around with it

Getting tempted to flash DL30 superclean... maybe I'll do it tomorrow while I'm off work and the kids are back to school after the blizzard
I'm on voodoo5 and it seems like maybe I would be better off just doing the ODIN DI01 all in one to go back to stock(don't even need to disable voodoo then, or should I still?)>odin old cwr> wipe data>flash DL09 radio> flash superclean with included "new" cwr> make a back up... is that right?

Maybe this answers the question concerning why it took so long for froyo to come around -- some phone's (ie. MonkeyGrass' issues) don't like the update. Maybe they've been fighting with these problems while testing it out for some time.

I simply disabled voodoo, made my backups with Titanium, made sure Google had Synced, then did a Nandroid backup in red recovery, wiped Data and Cache each about six times, flashed DL30, flashed new_cw, DONE.

I'm still on DJ05 and I must say that Froyo runs at least to par with Voodoo 5 SuperClean and a stock speed kernal... if not smoother. Not only that but my browser and search are both all Google, I have the latest market (it just appeared after a few hours... don't know how, cause right after flashing I had the old market, then after a couple resets, after the Titanium restore, I had the new market back) and I have Flash!

I honestly couldn't be happier... I'm running LP+ with all bloatware frozen with Titanium so it feels like SuperClean even with TW still being there. Uber kudos and much thanks to all who made this possible.

A couple of quick questions about adryn's super clean. First, I saw that he posted the backup assistant file, does that mean he removed it in his build? (With jt's ROM that I am running now it still works normal) If so, I am assuming that I have to reinstall that to sync my contacts back up. Second question is about the mass storage. Am I reading it right over at xda; that you NEED to have USB debugging turned on to use the USB? Is that an issue that will be fixed at some point? Is that just an issue with his build or is that the same in the leak?

After reading of the hotspot monitoring on this and other sites, I have been very reluctant to upgrade. I don't use my hotspot often, but I also don't want Verizon sending me any nasty grams over it.

Has anyone heard anything else about this monitoring? Hopefully, someone will remove this, then I will update.

From what I've read, it has to do with using their kernel. Once we get custom kernels there is no chance of them monitoring us. So I would avoid using the free wireless tethering for now if you make the move to DL30

Well I tried Adryn's Super Clean 1.0 and had quite a few issues with it. Here is a list of the issues:

1) Whenever I plugged in the USB, it would rotate to landscape and lock orientation. Once in a while it would actually stay in portrait, but it still locked the orientation.
2) On two different occasions somehow my soft keys just stopped working (except for the back key). I could still use the phone as normal, other than the soft keys.
3) Couldn't get one of nit's themes to flash correctly. Not everything would change. Tried flashing it twice and it still didn't work.
4) I wasn't a fan of the launcher used because there was no customization options that I could find at all. Maybe I was just used to the ADW that JT included in his DJ05 ROM's.

So after all of that I decided to try the stock DL30 and that seems to be running much better for me. I am pretty sure that I wiped data enough before trying adryn's because I pushed the DI01 package through ODIN first, then wiped data and then installed adryn's Super Clean and had all of the above issues. Whereas, when I installed the stock DL30, all that I did was wipe data one more time and flash and I seem good to go now.
