I did the exact same thing. Google Reader works great. I recommend first accessing it through the web, setup your lists etc.. and then just load it up on your Eris. You can also add it as an icon to your homescreen by bookmarking it and attaching an icon to the bookmark.

I know what you mean but I have several different icons/bookmarks in a folder on the homescreen. Guess I'm just too organized to have 7 different pages of screens. Thats what I dont like on my iPhone is scrolling 10 pages to find an app.
Maybe resurrecting this is the wrong approach, but there wasn't an actual recommendation for an app, which was the OP's question. That is also my question. Is there an app rather than using a shortcut method? That would be much better for me.
I use GReader Notifier and like it a lot. A also have a bookmark to google reader. Before 2.1 v3, when links wouldn't open properly, I used the bookmark widget when I got a notification. Now, the links work and it's a breeze!
