Galaxy s android locked; forgotten gmail & pattern

I have a android; galaxy s/ or 5. and i had too many pattern attempts and it said i have to enter my gmail account. The problem is i forgot both. I called at&t and they won't reset it. I tried turning the phone on & off, taking the battery out. Nothing will work. I haven't had this phone for a week yet. how can i unlock this, i can't get into my phone at all. Help!!

From the power being off, try pressing the power button together with the home key. When you see the \!/ message, press the search key. That should put you into recovery mode. Select data reset and let it do its thing. I'm surprised ATT wouldn't help you with that. Maybe they don't know how to do it?

If, by chance, you provided Gmail an alternate email address when you set the account up you can always try to go through the password reset process on Gmails web interface (on a computer). Gmail will send the reset info to your alternate email address...

Hey, I've tried that multiple times. It hasn't worked. Everytime i turn it on it always has the gmail sign in there. Am i doing something wrong, or do you have another suggestion. Thnx & Please!

So if you attempt to log into your Gmail account using a web browser on a PC, does it not allow you to login? And if you follow the "Forgot Password" process does it not provide you access to your account?

Personally I'd clear up your Gmail issues on a PC (Windows or MAC) first. Once you've straightened out your GMail issues then we can tackle the phone issue.

With the phone if you simply cannot get it to let you in, you may need to consider doing a complete factory reset on the phone. In other words bringing it back to the same basic condition it was the day it was first purchased. You'll then need to go through the configuration process and start over. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of well known work-arounds in a case like this... Sorry!

First, try this:

1. From the main home screen, tap menu
2. Tap Settings, then Privacy
3. Tap Factory data reset
4. Tap Reset phone
5. Enter your password, then tap Yes to confirm

If that doesn't work:

1. Turn the power off. If your Samsung Galaxy S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Galaxy S. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state. This is where you initially enter your Gmail account and password (amongst other things). Set up your phone and you should then be back in business.


Be advised, however, that a factory data reset will delete ALL apps and data from your phone. If you have stored text messages or emails stored locally on the phone it's likely that you're going to lose them. The same is true with apps. All apps will be deleted from the phone and you'll need to download and set them up again.
