Who fancies some gingerbread?

lets hope its true

I've read it in multiple places, but that doesn't mean jack really. I do hope so though, it would be nice.

I don't even have FROYO yet? I still get message saying that my device (Orange contract) cannot be updated!

I don't know about Orange release dates, Luckily my handset isn't network locked so I got froyo as soon as Samsung released it. You could always flash a custom rom/unofficial froyo?

I hate that Australia is tied to the US update schedule (so it seems). So when the US is getting ready to update we get it but the US carriers take their sweet f***ing time to get around to updating.

Again only thing I can suggest is flashing a rom yourself with odin?

2.2.1 is DEFINITELY worth the upgrade, I wasn't going to bother at first but after I did the difference is just ridiculous! There's no lag whatsoever, my quadrant score went from about 900 to about 1500, and the biggest annoyance for me, media scanner, now takes less than 1 minute to scan my entire 16gb sd card instead of about ten minutes like it used too.

I know using Odin can be daunting if you have never tried before but there's plenty of guides on how to do it, and plenty of people here who can answer questions you may have before doing it, trust me you will NOT be disappointed.

I've rooted and lag fixed and have a good score on Quad standard. Just don't have 2.2.1. Bit concerned about trying to do it myself as I have no real idea what I am doing!

If you can root and lagfx your phone then you will be fine using Odin.

I wsa exactly the same as you, but so glad I have moved to 2.2.1 - night and day.

A few tips

Make sure you know your passwords etc for google accounts, email etc.
Back up all your applications and data (I use MyBackupPro, but there are plenty of others)- if you use the calendar function and sync with google calendar, do not restore your calendar data and re-sync as you end up with duplicate entries all over the place !! Best just to re-sync and not restore the calendar data.

If you use LauncherPro - you can back up home screens, and then restore after - makes life a lot easier

Follow the instructions on samfirmawre - really straightforward.

Login - www.SamFirmware.com

It can seem quite daunting but it's quite straight forward.

Remember -

Do not check RE-PARTITION if you only have one .tar file in the firmware download.
Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!

Good luck

Install the firmware yourself, dont wait for your carrier to release it. Create a free account at samfirmware.com and you can download the firmware yourself and use ODIN to flash.

hi just came across youre post by accident and i had one of the orange sgs that CANNOT be updated:mad: ...basically someone in the company ****ed up and bought a batch of sgs's with locked in firmware that can never be updated :mad:you might be able to root it etc) anyway the inability to upgrade constitutes a fault:) and as such i had mine replaced on that basis allthough the very helpfull person at orange who handled that for me had to make some shit up ;)because there wasn't an actual box to tick if you like re un-upgradeable phones so she purt it through as some other type of fault hope this helps
bye for now
