right I know I can use folder organiser to change application icons, but I want to know if its possible to have a way to change widget icons...like that of handcent for example?

only just realised that the standard handcent icon doesnt show a lil notification with it which is sad because now it kinda makes my lock screen look wrong and not work the way I want it to fully..

or is there another sms app that allows you to change the notification widget?

basically I have custom text icons that go with my theme on my Desire...and the Gmail and Phone oens work but the text is just plain...I want it live like the others..

never mind....found SMS Unread Count which actually handles sms, gmail and phone....so bye bye gmail unread count and your problem causing custom icons...

one quick question and it was said numerous times here and other places with no luck...

you could supposedly link sms unread with handcent but now you dont get the option to default at all...it just goes auto to standard sms...am I missing something else here or has that option gone?

From the app site (http://android.kanokgems.com/sms-unread-count):

Q. How can I set it to launch my favourite messaging program?
A. It launches the default messaging app. If it doesn't launch the app you want, you have to clear that app from being a default messaging app. To clear an app from being the default, go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Messaging -> Clear defaults. It will ask for which app to launch next time.

Also, I'm looking for the Milestone 2 default Text Messaging icon to use with this, but can't seem to get hold of it. Anyone know where it is stored on the phone? Thanks.

Unfortunately on my EVO it does not give the option to clear defaults in the messaging app (grayed out) so I am stuck with standard messaging app being fired when I tap the "sms uread" icon.

I solved this problem by installing the 'vanilla' (non-Sense) Froyo messaging app. Pulled it from another ROM, renamed it to 'Messaging.apk', made a nandroid to be safe, overwrote the HTC Messaging.apk, and I was able to clear the default and set SMS Unread Count to fire up ChompSMS instead.
