Auto-rotation from sleep mode / delay in waking from sleep mode

I apologize if these topics were already covered in previous threads. I wasn't able to find anything related in my searches...

Auto-rotation for keyboard when answering a text message received in sleep mode does not work. If I actively send a text when phone is already awake, keyboard rotates with no problem but when I go to reply to a text that I received while phone is in sleep mode, the keyboard does not rotate. Is this the norm?

I am also experiencing a delay when the I wake the phone. After unlocking the phone, I used to go straight to my home page, now I get a "loading" message which takes several seconds. Is this due to the number of apps I have loaded? Is it possibly due to number of photo frames I have on my home screen or the complexity of the wallpaper?

Any thoughts on these matters are greatly appreciated.

I've never seen the 'loading' message, so can't say for sure. But typically photos take time to load/display no matter what device is. So *I* would start by removing pictures from the home screen. Also if you wall paper is a photo that you took, that might be a problem. Maybe lowering the resolution on that photo (or all photos you want to put on your home screen) would help.

I wouldn't THINK that installed apps would do it. I've seen on the forums where folks have installed enough apps to slow down their phone, but no specific mention to a 'loading' screen.

For the rotation problem, I expect that's just a sympton of the phone not really being 'awake', therefore not everything is going to work like you're accustomed to. If you wake the phone, and then reply, does it work correctly?

When the phone is fully awake and running normal, try going to the home screen and hitting the menu button, then hit scenes and change to another scene. Is that the loading image you are seeing when the phone wakes?

You may also want to check your available memory. Got to Settings > SD car & phone storage and look at the very bottom under Available space. What is that number? If it is under 20 then you may need to remove some apps or clear the cache on several apps. This could make the phone very sluggish when starting up.

As far as the photos go, if you have enough photo frames on your home screen that you think it might be a problem then you may just want to remove them and use one photo album instead.

I am not a big texter, so I can't really say to much on the subject of the keyboard for that app. Are you using the native app or did you download another one? This may help anyone else that offers help.

Yes, that is the 'loading' image I am seeing upon waking up the phone. You mentioned clearing the cache on apps.. how do you go about doing that? The only cache I can figure out how to clear is on the browser.

I am going to clear out all of the photo frames to see if I get any change.

As to the auto-rotation problem, I am using handcent but I do not recall having any issues with it until recently. I haven't received any texts in the recent past to test mhotovec's trouble shooting advice.

As for clearing cache you can go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Then hit menu and Sort by Size. Then you can just open the top apps (I usually stick with the ones over 500k) and look to see if there is anything in the cache. The browser is usually the biggest one although it depends on what you have installed. Some apps can store quite a bit in cache. You may just want to go through and see which ones are storing stuff and which ones aren't.

My phone has severe lag when it first comes out of sleep. It takes about 10 seconds for the clock to update, another 10 seconds for the WiFi logo to come up, and about 1 minute total until it runs at "normal" speed.
