Help Can you text from the xoom

I know the Galaxy had this but do our Xooms have it. I have a number assigned but no app.

honeycomb is designed for tablets and not for phones. there is no native messaging app on the device.

im on the phone with vzw now trying to setup the myvzw page so i can apply my discounts, etc. the site wants to send a temp password to the xoom. the xoom has no message app so it cant receive it. she is going to use a dummy phone and apply it on the back end of the account so she can read the text to me... this may be an issue for others in this situation...

Same issue here when I tried to set my xoom up on Verizon's site. Do I have to make a call or are they going to work this out?

I've just been using email for texting to peoples phones and they can just text back to your Gmail. It's not the best solution, but it is better than nothing.

That's the same thing I've been doing hopefully they make the gv ap compatible for the xoom atleast for texting and listening to vm

my xooms verizon number was listed in the information i got when i purchases mine and the $20 month to month plan at best buy. i used that for the my verizon page, but i didn't have a sms app so i didn't get the message. however it said they would also mail you the information to your billing address in 3-5 business days.

there is no need to wait. you can call up verizon tech support and they can do it over the phone. i have posted this everywhere i could.

they have a phone they can temporarily put on your account so you can send the sms message to the phone. they then put your xoom back on the account. i did this on launch day. took less than 5 minutes. its a couple of mouse clicks for them.. no problem at all.

Your number isn't on your receipt? Since I have a family plan, when I went to the VZW portal, I was able to see the phone numbers.

Is there any possibility that an app will be developed, by Verizon, or someone else that will allow texting from the Xoom? Even the Ipad can text with the assigned data number. Slightly annoying, but not insurmountable.

I use an app called Beluga to text. Works great but the problem is that it isn't a Verizon text so if the person you are texting does not have unlimited texts then they could get charged for non-VZN messaging.

Other than using the web client of Google voice or www.vtext.com (for Verizon customers) I am out of ideas.

people you have to download heywire.. you get a number just like google voice.. your own number.. then you can text all you want, with no text plan required, all is done thru data.. an people can answer you back just like they would do to any other phone.. no phone calls though.. we have heywire installed on our wifi xoom, and it works just fine
