Root Rom with iPhone UI

Lol...Miui is a great rom, but im not going to lie, its high maintenance. Finding a kernel to work with your phone is a bitch. There is no 4G. The forum for miui is slow. There is a learning curve for basically the whole thing
Be prepared for lots of problems, and if you are new, i suggest getting a couple roms under your belt.

However, if youve done your reading, checked out what others have tried and learn from them, it amazing. I put it on just to look at it, and its been on my phone for days. In my opinion, i have had the most fun with it and with Koni's so far.

Just a fair warning. But if you like playing and tweaking and getting into it, this is for you!

And you want something iPhoneish? Here is what im rocking today... ;)

MIUI is pretty nice, takes some getting used to but it has everything builtin and you don't need any extra apps like battery widgets, handcent, backup etc. It has the best dialer, theming, music, gallery and launcher.

My battery life wasn't that great on it, but everything was working. I'm waiting for the GB port to MIUI which is coming. All other rom's (Sense or AOSP) feel very 'simple' after using MIUI, as they don't change the phone experience from stock.

I flashed MIUI a few days ago, and gave up pretty quickly on it - I think primarily because it was too iPhoneish. I kept searching for other ROM's but kept going back to Kings Ultra Unleashed R2 as I find it stable and quick.

But for some reason I continue to look for other ROM's to flash (I guess that's what happens after you root - you become a flashaholic).

I decided to give MIUI a try again today, and after digging around in it for a bit, I have to admit that I really like it. It definitely is a great looking ROM and, as mentioned, has tons of features. I started downloading the usuals, like Handcent, but then noticed that the included MMS app is equal to, maybe better, than Handcent. It's been a while since I had an iPhone, but in my quick messing with it, I think it's got a lot more options for customizing than the iPhone.

The only thing I noticed off the bat was my signal strength. In my house I'm getting only 1 or 2 bars. When on Kings I recently downgraded my PRI to 1.77 and noticed a big difference in my signal strength. I would get full signal in quite a few areas of my house. I know that signal strength can be misleading as it's not always reported correctly in a ROM, so I will monitor this over the next couple days and see how it is when I venture out. But if anyone has feedback about using 1.77 or 1.9 and how the signal strength has been, I would appreciate it.

I also need to see how battery life is. I'll give it a bit and try out Ziggys.

Any other tips for this ROM are welcome.

Thanks.

Ok. Finally it's time for some MIUI. Been too busy to really mess around with anything.

I have a pretty good feeling for MYN now, and I have it working much better than stock. I'm gonna start miui with ziggy beta cfs hav 12 kernel. So I'll report back with some performance comparisons.

Anyone know if there is any difference between the RA 2.3 Wipe All and the Calkulin's format all?

Not 100% sure what the difference is, but i think you get pretty much the same outcome.
I have taken the suggestion from someone else and before any nandroid restore, using Calks Format All and then restoring the backup (also before flashing any new rom obviously) and i dont know if it is all in my head or not, but it seems to restore faster, and run more smoothly afterward.
Sometimes i have random issues with battery or other odd things, and i feel like i have less when i use the format all then restore a backup. Formatting the system before cant hurt and only takes a second, I actually just keep that zip on my card and use it quite frequently.

Let me know how you like miui. I just went back to Konis yesterday because i have lots of work coming up and didnt have time to mess around with miui. Ill save miui as my "weekend rom" for when i have some time to play and customize ;)

I'm really starting to like this rom.

At first I was thinking, wow this is pretty cool but everything is changed. That quickly went to, I don't know if I like this, EVERY thing has changed....to this is pretty dog on cool.

Using Ziggy's CFS-HAVS-031211 and performance seems to be about what I'm used to. I'll give it some more time and find myself another theme. As of right now, A+.

Despite its iPhonishness, the ROM is much, much more powerful than iOS. Like someone else said, this ROM stands out from most because it's a new OS experience, not just a stock Sense or AOSP rethemed/rearranged. And there's definitely an emphasis on form AND function.

My only complaint is that every release tends to have some prominent bugs. I don't mind the weekly release schedule, but they should do periodic quality releases for those who just wants something stable.

But in the end, kudos to those devs. they are toiling pretty hard just to provide us with this awesome experience.

Its just a theme.. solution. ..... launcher pro

Been on the gb version 24 hrs and really only minor issues. Far more complete than anybother gb rom that I have tried. Everything is for the most part where it should be just themed like an iPhone. Which I have never owned or used.

With limited 4g in Dallas this may be my new daily. Which says alot. There have Been major bugs in everything I have flashed lately

It is my first miui ..I can't compare to others

It is in fact built on a gb base tho 2.3.3

Any idea on your battery life so far? I tried MIUI last weekend (non GB of course) and really liked it. However, Monday when I started using my phone more for voice calls and email, my battery was down to 40% in under 3 hours. This was with the stock kernel and I didn't try another before bailing since didn't want to mess with it during the week.

Try one of ziggy's kernels. Thus far it has been good to me. I didn't try the stock kernel because I didn't see evo listed for it.

This morning when I put my phone on the charger, I was around 30 hrs and still at 32% battery. Now I did plug it into my PC for about 30-45 mins. to transfer some files, so it did get some charge from that. But after over a day of moderate use, i think it has helded up good.

I'll probably wait some time before flashing the newest gb version because I'm not one to rush into things. But if I get bored watching bball, I might give it a try. But if you do try ziggy. I don't think there is one for GB yet, you will need to try a different one.

Ok, thanks, I will do that next time I mess around with it.

How did you get the digital clock/weather widget back? All I see is the option for the analog clock.

Haha! That is actualy yahoo messenger, which i use to talk to a couple people.
And i do have yahoo mail, along with aol mail, which i have for all of my garbage set to sync every couple hours. Then, my gmail is for personal and business and is set to auto sync :)

That is actually an apk that is over on xda somewhere, and someone modded it to make it black and posted on miui forums. I cant find it, take no credit for it, but i have the apk so here you go :)
