Root Should I get this phone?

I'm considering this phone, Thunderbolt or wait for the bionic; Although I like 4 inch phone better.
I played with the phone at the store and found some lag in the UI compared to Inpire 4G or Thunderbolt

I've gone through several threads but couldn't find answers to a few questions here:
1) Heard of the locked bootlocker; Does that stop you from rooting and removing the bloat that is on the phone?
2) Are there any ROMs available that makes the UI faster and close to gingerbread in performance?
3) Does anyone have experience with 1) and 2) and has that made their phone faster to use?

Thanks

You are correct about some lag on the in store display phone. (I experienced the same thing.) Not only do you have motoblur slowing it down, you have all the apps people have downloaded, not to mention the setting on the phone not being set correctly. I believe the phone is very snappy, as I have seen and read. You just have to know how to customize it. (The beauty of Android)

Answer to question 2): You can down load different home launchers that are faster and much more customizable then the motoblur home launcher. I installed ADW Launcher on my backflip and it runs much smoother then the motoblur launcher. (It looks nicer too.) Others have mentioned Launcher Pro home replacement launcher.

1) The bootloader has been confirmed to be signed and not locked. So until a dev at XDA can hack the bootloader, what this means is that you cannot load any custom ROMs with a custom Kernel. You can still Root your phone and have Roms, but it would have to have the stock Kernel for it to work. So yes, you can remove bloatwares on the Atrix

If ya want a vanila android phone skip the atrix! As other moto phones, its locked down very well, no custom kernels. Take a good look at the Lg optimus g2x. Unlocked pure android, Paul Obrien at Xda has all ready got clockworks recovery, custom kernel, changed his phone from ext3 to ext4 an boasted the quadrant score to over 3k thats a 20% increase, lol. G2x due out april 20th

I admittedly have little experience with android so I dont know about unlocking anything yet but I have yet to see any lag using this phone on a daily basis, the best thing is all of the phones features work(unlike the iphone, whos map app would always freeze)

This is easily the fastest phone and if you need to do custom shit then maybe listen to other people here but I dont see anything beating this phone for a long time and I almost didnt get it because I have hated motorola for years.
