Can my Eris that is flashed to xtrRom_5.0 be activated on someone else's account "as is," without reflashing to stock?

The reason I ask is I want to sell my Eris on eBay, but I don't want someone to buy it and then not be able to activate it because it's not stock.

Thanks in advance!

Dialing *228 generally works in every ROM, although in some dev ROMs you need to press the menu key to get a keyboard to come up, and then press the digit key to get the DTMF tone to be sent.** In some cases this means also pressing the numeric toggle on the keyboard displayed to be able to dial digits. This is completely non-obvious to a new user of the phone - even to an experienced user. (I've never used xtrROM, so I don't know exactly how it behaves; it is possible that a dialpad comes up, and you can certainly find out yourself by dialing *228 to see what happens).

Note that if you perform a "factory reset" using ANY Eris dev ROM where there is a "custom" recovery on the phone, your user data will be wiped, but the activation status of the phone will not be cleared..

That means that if a new user starts the phone up, it won't automatically attempt an activation call the way a true "factory" phone would. Again, this might be not obvious to a new user of the phone unless they are provided instructions.

If you are not selling the phone with "it's rooted" as a selling point, you could certainly install the [ROM][03/06/2011]FlashBack21 v2 -Return to Factory Stock - March 2011 OTA ROM, and this will revert the phone completely back to factory. After doing that, performing a "Factory Reset" from the phone's menu WILL[/B} clear the activation status of the phone.

** I remember seeing instructions somewhere here where you could dial something like *22899 or *22898 so that the dialpad isn't needed (I can't remember what the exact digits are); that's another alternative.

xtrROM uses the stock dialer, so there is an icon to bring up the dialpad when you dial *228.

You will probably want to wipe data on the phone, so that will be interesting, as the user will not have access to a data plan when they first start up the phone and try to log in to a Google account while running the setup. I've never done this, but I think that's ok; you'd just either connect to a WiFi access point as part of the setup, or just let the initial login fail and then activate the phone and open the market - I think that would work.

Thing is that the user buying the phone may expect to be able to call Verizon for help while activating the phone, and Verizon will rightly expect the phone to be unrooted and just tell them to factory reset and let it activate as the first step, as would happen with stock.

Honestly, I would just unroot and factory reset the phone, then perhaps include a note explaining how to make the phone better by rooting and directing them to the instructions at the Universal Root thread, as well as leaving all of the gscripts and the xtrROM zip file on the SD card.
