Root [ROMs Froyo] Upgrade your Xperia X8 to Froyo 2.2

Ok, I just did a repair from PC Companion an installed from scratch. By the way, I have a E15i.

The thing is that it just installed 2.1.1 firmware with 006 baseband. The build number is 2.0.1.A.0.47. I didn't installed the 15 baseband.

Should I root, flash baseband with that tool, installed xRecovery and then install 2.2.1?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, with a E15i you can just root and flash your baseband with that tool.

it will work

cheers :)

Not true miniCM port from x10mini has the video recording working ;)

Scroll down to Download title and download all the .zip files and flash them via xRecovery ;)

Hi,

I have tried that miniCM ROM...

Bugs
1) my phone keeps flashing - "SD-Card ready to remove" and crash/reboot too many times
2) whatever you done in <settings> is not saved after restarting phone
3) applications shutdown when the phone goes to sleep.

these bugs make me uninstall the ROM.
guess have to wait for better 2.3.3 ROM... sooner or later it will be ready :)

cheers :)

Hi gabeyong,

Manage to <flash><Floyo-0.15>.
Everything seem to work well at the 1st touch.
Just found out the ablility of input Chinese was gone. Anyway to get Floyo-0.15 to have Chinese input?

Thanks.

Hi,

Glad you upgraded to Floyo-0.15

For Chinese input you need a chinese keyboard.
go to <Market> and <search><download><install> chinese keyboard

go to any app where typing input is required <open keyboard><long-tap-hold> the <input area> <select><input method> -> <select><chinese keyboard>

And that's it...

cheers :)

Hi gabeyong,

Thank you. After downloaded Chinese for Smart Keyboard, still unable to input Chinese. Pls refer to attached picture.

You DID NOT install Smart Keyboard but you have installed the Smart Keyboard Chinese (Skin) that's why you are unable to input chinese there is no Smart Keyboard to use the chinese keyboard skin.

You have to install Smart Keyboard Pro to begin with before you can use the Smart Keyboard Chinese (Skin).

Chinese for Smart Keyboard <-- here
Eng-Chi dictionary keyboard <-- alternative here

LOL cheers :)

Hi gabeyong,

besides unable to input Chinese, I still encoutered 2 problem - unable to upgrade the Market apps and unable to install Angry bird. Appreciate if you can help me.

If you read the threads of this post you will resolve the android market problem.

For Angry Birds > Google --> download <install> manually.

For Smart Keyboard Pro <buy the app> and <install> Chinese for Smart Keyboard Pro.

OMG LOL Cheers :)

Hi,

Yes, AppPlanet apps are problematic. Some of them are old and do not support APP2SD functions.

Try to transfer/install them to your phone one at a time and find out which will crash/reboot your phone. You can eliminate the apps with bugs that way.

cheers :)

p/s try to use Market... Apps in Android Market get updated regularly to support APP2SD functions.

Hi again,

thnx for your fast reply. I did what you suggest and probably i must install the games again and don't move them to SD. I ll also try install something from market -> move to SD and see if it's as you said.

Just a quick question gabeyong. You say to format your SD card with one partition but Link2SD wants a second partition to work?

I find Link2SD a lot better for saving space than App2SD

Thanks

Hi,

There is not much difference...

APP2SD requires ext3 partition to work
Link2SD requires FAT32 partition to work

Since Froyo 2.2 APP2SD/LINK2SD functions became integrated and native to the Android firmware (i.e. no longer require separate partition - apps copy directly to SD card).

The problem is an issue of speed of the SD Card, the communication protocol of the SD Card and how the application is written to support APP2SD function. That's a 3 factorial problem of all android developers.

Phone memory is the fastest therefore most stable. SD Cards have different speeds (i.e the higher the class - the faster the read/write speed) and structure (i.e we have SD up to 2GB; SDSC up to 4GB; SDHC up to 32GB) all have a slightly different communication protocol. To add to the confusion SDSC and SDHC are often labeled SDHC.

I digress... In short...

Apps must be written to support APP2SD function - apps must able to transfer its "operating protocols" to external memory (i.e. Dalvik VM --> design constrained in terms of processor speed and memory). Apps will refuse to move because it is dependant on Android OS API. Apps may move to SD card but become fragmented/incomplete and hangs/crashes phone o/s.

SD Card speed (i.e. Class 6 is faster than Class 4). As soon as the android phone operating system "waits" for an app to be "accessed" from an SD Card; the phone will hang/force quit/crash/reboots.

So a multitude of things can go wrong - depending on the efficiency of application programs, speed and communication protocol of the SD Card.

cheers :)

Hi,

sounds like z4root has corrupted the Floyo-0.15 ROM.

to start from zero.

repair your phone using PC Companion to Android Eclair 2.1.1.A.0.6

then <Root>
then <install><xRecovery>
then using xRecovery <flash><Floyo-0.15>

cheers :)
