can a mod explain what can be put in this forum?

This specific section is for general chat about the Droid X. If you are looking for Support, it'll likely get moved to the Support and Troubleshooting subforum. Likewise, everything Root related and accessories will get moved to their respective subforums.

Threads that are unrelated to the phone (ex. "I have a pet chimpanzee") will be moved to the Lounge.

General application announcements or "hey, check out app _______" will get moved unless they are discussing specifically the Droid X.

On a side note, if you ever need to get in touch with a Mod, just click the
report.gif
button. There are only a handful of us and thousands of you. It's impossible for us to see and read every post and every thread.

The catch to all this is that mistakes happen and sometimes threads get moved unintentionally. If you aren't sure, just click the report button and ask! :)

I asked this question before because someone started a thread about a basic Android function, but they stated what phone they were using.

The thread was moved to the section for that phone, even though the question wasn't specific to that phone.

I've also noticed that some mods will take it upon themselves to move threads based on where they think it will get the most exposure/have the best chance at getting replies. Not that that's a bad thing, just a thing I've noticed.

It's possible that in your example, the app dealt with functions for the specific phone even though the app itself could be used on all android phones... or maybe it was an app that only worked on a *few* phones, so even though it may have worked on more than one android, the mod decided to clean up the general page by moving it to the specific phone page.

Or maybe the mod just had one of those horrible moments of being human and made a mistake ;-)

Thanks! I have just noticed a lot of posts being moved that are specific to the X. Maybe those were more along the lines of troubleshooting and help...maybe that's why they were moved. I guess I assumed anything related to the X (except rooted stuff) could be put into the Motorola Droid X section. But I do see your point and I will try to post my trouble/help things into the troubleshooting section. When you get my age, you get forgetful

The g in mgod is silent.

LOL! WifelyMon pronounces that differently, especially when I make missstaeks. :)

Srsly, tho - another thing to mention is that often, others - or even the OP - will !Report posts and threads to us suggesting to move things, and if their suggestion is good on its face, we just move them as requested.

Silently.

Like that g. ;)

Also - we've run a new method in the Thunderbolt section where we use prefixes instead of sub-forums as a means to stop the moving. We originally hoped it would solve this sort of shared frustration - but instead, it just shifted things to a different set of confusions.

We're always on the lookout on ways to improve the site and our policies for your enjoyment in posting here.

The place to do that is our - Suggestion Box & Feedback - Android Forums - and you definitely don't want to be silent there. :)

And if it gets to be too much, track one of us down and ban them over at - http://androidforums.com/forum-games/1081-ban-person-above-you.html

Until we mgeet again, mes amis, cheers!

On the occasion when I've seen something moved inappropriately that I had a personal interest in, I've sent a pleasant message to Steven with my rationale for moving it back - and he has either told me he moved it, and will move it back, or has figured out who moved it and asked them to move it back.

It's really an impossible task to appropriately categorize everything. Case in point, we had a Lightflow thread which Steven moved to the apps section. Sounds good, right? It's an app. Except LED notifications are highly device dependent so it was really important to have it in the X section to discuss hardware quirks. So I asked and he moved it back. But it demonstrates that there's a big nebulous area about what threads go where.

Best course of action? Talk. If there's a particular mistake, ask about it. If there's a policy question, the mods are pretty patient with PMs. EarlyMon, in particular, has discussed some of my contrary and strongly-felt opinions with me ;)

Moving threads makes me feel all bossy and all important-like. Please don't deny this old man his only pleasure in life. k? :p

Edit: It is getting a bit move-y lately, no? If you have a problem with anything moved, please pm someone (even me) and it'll get moved back, prolly. Truth be told, I'm not married to any move I make. I'm just trying to be helpful.

FWIW, and not that my opinion really matters, but I have been frequenting the thunderbolt section because I will be getting one soon. I have noticed what you did in there with the filter prefixs in the heading. While I get the point of what you are attempting to do there I can definitly see how it could be confusing for 2 reasons

1) I think a fair number of people are actually used to seeing the subsections like they are in this Droid X section, and as we all know, if its different its confusing :D:p

2) the way to filter it is a lot like using the search button, and as we also know, A LOT of people dont use that search button enough, so I can see them not using the filter prefix part as well

just the .02 from some random guy ;)

There was a pretty decent discussion (it was also as an announcement so it would have been at the top of the forum for a month or so) about subforums vs prefixes vs no subforums (minus All Things Root) HERE prior to it being implemented in the TB section.

The thought was that people didn't like the subforums because they had to look for the information or that their threads were being moved and they didn't want their question in the support section, etc. The hope/trial is that these sections can still be divided but now users don't have to hunt in 4 different subforums for the information they are looking for.

Feel free to add your input to the thread I linked. It IS read and considered! :D

[Hide from mods] To the OP, I feel your pain bro. Many times I had something I wanted to discuss with some of the members who frequent the DX section of Phandroid, posted a thread in here, and it was moved to the Lounge. The problem is, most of the guys who hang around in here all the time rarely make it over to the Lounge. Don't get me wrong, I like the crowd in the Lounge too, but when the conversation was meant for these guys in here, it's pretty useless when it gets moved to the Lounge.

Which is why I came up with a little trick long ago... when I have something I want to discuss with this group in here, that doesn't have anything to do with the DX (which means I know it will get moved), I simply throw the DX into the fray to call the dogs off. And it works great!

For instance I might know that Binary Visions is a big Chicago Bulls fan (this is hypothetical, I don't have any clue if BV even watches sports), so I'll start a thread and name it, "NBA on the DX???". I'm always sure to add 'DX' into the title, because if I named it, "NBA on Android???", then it'd probably get moved to the Android Lounge. So make sure you include 'DX' in there somewhere.

Then in the thread I mention the DX again just in case the name of the thread didn't already throw the blood hounds off of the scent. So I'd say, "Is there anyway to watch NBA games on my DX? I want to watch my Indiana Pacers put the smack down on those Chicago Bulls tonight!"... and voila, I have succesfully disguised a conversation about the NBA into a DX topic.

Works like a charm. :D [/Hide from mods]

Hey, I wrapped that post with a 'hide from mods' tag, how did you see that???

Lol, oh come on now relax, we're just here to have fun, yes? Have I done exactly what I mentioned above? Yes. How many times? Three or four... five at best. So five threads snuck in here over the past 9 months... I'm not really cluttering the place up am I?

The point is, you can't always hit your target audience in the Lounge, the Android Lounge or even the Droid X Lounge. Because not everyone frequents all those places. If they did, then I'd have no reason to resort to those types of shenanagins now would I.

I'm just tryin to live up to my nickname broseph. ;)

Early has X-ray vision superpowers, so you have to use the hide button on him. Truth be told, I was tempted to move your post, just to annoy you. hehehehe. (steven runs)
