I want to buy one of these phones unlocked without contract which would you buy for ATT? I'm coming from a iPhone 4 really just want a larger screen and android.

There's no need to root a unlocked phone is there? Is there a way to restore the phone to its stock firmware/original state kinda like itunes does with a restore?

What if ATT pushes a over the air update will it do anything to the phone?

Thanks!

I like my inspire but I miss the screen quality of my galaxy s captivate so I might try the gs2

Unlocked means you can use it on like tmobile or another carrier not the same as rooting.

And I think I read somewhere back when 2.2 was released for the captivate that the rooted people had to flash back to stock rom then update not sure if it unroots the phone

Guess there's really no reason to by a unlocked one then if i will only be using it on ATT but it should have no bloat ware on it if i buy one unlocked online?

Don't you need to root it to un-install apps it came with?

If it has the att logo on it it will have the att bloatware. I don't think you can buy the phone unbranded and unlocked. There used to be phones sold unbranded like the razr I think but I don't think the inspire is.
Yeah in order to remove att bloatware it has to be rooted.
