Not recognising song info (Samsung Galaxy SII)

Hello. I'm new here so I hope I'm posting in the right place. I got a Samsung Galaxy SII a couple of days ago and I'm considering getting a 32gb SD card to use my phone as a new permanent mp3 player, however on transferring the the very first album to it I ran into problems. Here's the album in WMP:

You can see all the info is there. Likewise in the files themselves:

So I sync them to my phone:

.....? This is using DoubleTwist, which was the media player recommended to me. Anyone know why it doesn't recognise?

I would say the problem will have nothing to do with the SD Card you will be getting but more to do with the way you are transferring the files across.
If I understand you correctly although the files have been transferred to your internal SD card on the phone the Artist info is not showing, so none of the tag data is present.
I have never used DoubleTwist so can not comment but I do have a 32GB MicroSD card in my SGS which is full of music & video files.
The way I transfer my files is by using the free App ES File Explorer.
ES File Explorer has 3 Tabs at the top of it's screen; the first is the Local which is files on the phone. The second is LAN and the third is FTP.
The Tabs you should be interested in are Local & LAN.
To transfer files all you need to do is on your PC enable Share with for whichever folders you would like the phone to see.
Now on the phone select the LAN Tab and get the App to search for any Wifi links it can find.... It should find your PC and the folders you have selected for sharing.
All you then do is select the files and copy them from the LAN to Local.
Job done..... Files are sent wirelessly across and all the information should show in your music player (I would try using the default music player to see).

I use a 32GB card here in my SGSI also. I simply sideload my music - since I maintain a properly tagged collection with mp3tag it recognises artist/genre etc automatically. Improper tagging could be another potential source for your difficulties. I'd try downloading mp3tag to your computer and checking the tags are correct there, and fix them if not.

OK, well here's what I'm getting with mp3tag (by the way I maintain a properly tagged library, I hate it when the info is wrong, I always fix it).

It seems that everything is there. Is it perhaps a wrong ID3 version? I've read that Android is a bit fussy about that.

Also, Beards, thanks for the advice but I don't think it's the way I transfer. I sync'd straight out of Windows Media, which didn't work, and then I transferred directly via the USB cable from folder to folder, same problem. Doing it via ES File Explorer will still transfer the same information.

Just as a matter of interest..... did you try loading the songs into the default player on the phone and if so is the Artist info still missing?

Curiously, not any more... It was doing the same thing in standard music player as in DoubleTwist yesterday, but now it seems to be showing up in standard (I took all the music off and only put back on the music I was having trouble with). I have no particular reason to using DT over standard, so I'll use standard if it works for all of my songs now. I'll put on more of my library, keep you posted...

Yes... It could simply be DoubleTwist which caused an issue and prevented the tag data from showing in the standard player the first time or the files you have recopied again this time have all data required.

Glad to hear its sorted.

...I'm also kind of glad to see I'm not the only person who is a little obsessive about their music collection tags...

Well I'm not sure whether it's fully sorted yet, just the album that was giving me trouble is working now. I'll have to transfer the rest of my library and hope for the best.

As for the library - yeah I'm so obsessed with it being neat! I don't have any compilation albums in my library either because I hate having only 1 song by an artist, so I always need the full album!

I know how you feel. I remember when I first tagged my collection of (at that time around 20GB). Everytime I thought it was perfect I'd find a single song with one letter missing from the artist or album title, or something similar, and then have to go in and fix it. Took quite a while, but well worth it. Of course if I was the sort of person who could have lived with having a few things out, it would have taken a lot less time.

Well, if it is any consolation, I have the same problem with the Galaxy S II. I have tried with Doubletwist, iSyncr, Easy Tunes Plus and always the same result. If I import the songs into Kies, I can see that it does not show the missing information. I have transferred the same songs to a Xperia Arc with Android 2.3 and had absolutely no problem, so it does not seem to relate to Android either! Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

Hey guys, reading all the answers you have kindly posted has still not fixed the problem for me. I have a 32gb sd card in my SGS and it is really frustrating for me to load my music on to the phone sd card (that takes an age!) and for so many albums to be in the unknown artist folder. All my music is set up properly and shows correctly with artist and album info in Kiels but once on the the phone it all goes wrong. Please if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

Many thanks

Nik

I have been having the exact same problem. My whole music collection is perfectly tagged.
I figured out the problem in my case was that android doesn't seem to like the tags on mpeg-4 (AAC) files. all the tracks that were causing problems were in this format. Once I converted them all to mp3 problem solved!

It is a real pain in the ass though.

I had the same problem, 32gig samsung galaxy. My problem was that the song files were arranged by artist/album/song on my computer. I changed the file view on the computer so it just listed them as songs and then transfered them using the usb cable. Worked great. Only problem is now my phone says it doesn't support like half of my library, but they're all on there. Good luck. Pretty sure yours is the identical problem.

I came here looking for an answer to the same problem, though the only tag I'm missing is the artist - extremely annoying. I was thinking that just putting an SD card in might do the trick (certainly some apps don't recognise internal storage as an option, I guess since most Droid's internal hasn't been much, till now.)
I might try changing the file type, since it has helped Ballverine, but you'll have to boil me in oil before I'll go to mp3 - if I wanted sound like that I'd have bought an iPod! ;D

I am having similar issues here with a brand new Galaxy S-II.
My perfectly tagged library (i.e. showing all info in Windows Media Player, iTunes and other players I tested) is showing a blank "Artist" column for ALL files in Kies!

What I found out sa far is, that files that I transferred to the device using it as "USB-Disk" or transferring them to the SD-Card directly (by copying the files onto the card in my laptop - which has such a slot - and then inserting that card into the phone) show proper artist info on the Galaxy itself.

However, listing these music files in Kies shows them with a blank Artist column!

So, IMHO it must be a question of either file format (doubtful) or tag version and/or encoding (probably), that Kies "understands" or expects!

I am tagging my files always using MP3tag using ID3v2.3 with UTF-16 encoding. Does anyone know, what tag version and encoding Kies expects?

Michael

Im also having the same problems with some of my music on the galaxys2 and its very annoying! Some of my music goes in fine but some of it goes into files under unknown artist. I tried changing the artist names in the properties menu on my computer but that just sends it into the unknown file and then in a sub category with the artists name.. Im finding this so frustrating i have read through the comments above and everybody seems to be in the same boat so im gonna say a prayer that somebody comes back with a solution!:D

I would try the latest PowerAMP beta - it doesn't rely on the systems (rubbish) tag reading like every other player does. Only problem I had with tags before was on genres (system puts metal with rock, doesn't like custom tags either) and on the tagging for FLAC encoded tracks - the PowerAMP beta fixes this. See if that helps? Details and download link here.

Totally frustrating weekend, went the poweramp method worked perfect. This proves to me no problem with SD card. But somehow data corrupted on SD card at gingerbread upgrade so tags lost and artists not recognised by default player, tried retaggining etc loaded various players useless poweramp found them all immediately, names artist albums etc, I'm not techy enough to understand how just grateful.

Need a good retagging programme for default player!:)
