Help listening to music in poor service area

I'm on a optimus V and listen to pandora about 65% of my waking hours.
My problem is when I get to the gym, the coverage is gone and radio stations wont come in on a tuner. My mp3 collection was gone after my computer took a dive.

I did sign up for napster but I saw that I missed the extra side note that mobile device is extra, after the fact. I do have something of a budget and I can see how the costs will add up.

What are my options for downloading music, making playlists..etc for when I'm at the gym, or otherwise in need of some tunes when there is no coverage?

Ive read some on gtunes.. still a little overwhelmed.

^This. The one with the ugly orange icon, lol. Obviously hafta use it to download stuff *before* you're in a poor service area, tho.
I don't have too many problems until I walk into my gym. Other then a text here or there the only usefulness it serves is that of an offline music player with a player that works out of coverage and offline, and there are songs downloaded to play
