2.3.4 OTA rollout in the next few weeks

Does anyone know if the update file that's out for the Nexus S works on the N1?

It's got hardware dependent stuff in it, so it won't work on a different device than it was created for. This even counts for different versions of the "same" phone (GSM vs CDMA for example, although I don't know if there even was a CDMA version released).

Sweet. I take the speed at which we got this update as a sign Google is done playing favorites with providers and manufacturers.

Everyone with a straight up Google Android phone will get them when they are available. I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever buy an android phone/tab with a layer on top.

I wonder if the small size of it is why the OTA update has been quicker though. Normally Google seem to roll these out gradually.

It's a shame there's not more Nexus type devices, but they don't get released that often. I still might buy the HTC Sensation, but I'd love to have the option to use Sense, or not.

just got the OTA update to 2.3.4 and indeed, no video chat on N1. :-(
If I got it, I was going to rig a mirror setup to get the N1 camera turned around and shooting up over the top of the phone. booo

it does seem quicker but that was just a minute of looking at the camera and gallery apps. I'll have to get some time on it to see if it feels faster in general. Gingerbread did seem to eat some of the battery life so I hope this update brings back some of that loss.

I found a tid-bit here that turning off My Location: "Use wireless networks" would help with battery life. I tried it over the weekend and I went two days without charging and was still at 30%. I already keep GPS off, but I was surprised that My Location would eat that much battery.

I like having no trackball waking actually, I found it often woke up by accident, fot example when putting the phone into the pouch. I suppose having this as an optional stting would be ideal.

An annoying thing I have noticed more and more is that my clock is running late. Having it set to automatic or manual makes no difference - it seems it only synchronizes with the carrier during bootup, which I hardly ever do, and after that it is left to run on its own.
