I thought so too, but can't quite work out how a software change could achieve that. Is it just a slightly different set of colours making it look better or something more clever? I was trying to decide if I thought the speaker sounded a bit better as well but am undecided on that at the moment..

It'll just be like tweaking settings like saturation, contrast etc, same as you can do with your TV. They'll just have optimised them for the display. For fonts etc, I think they have most likely messed around with the dpi too. There are certain app labels which didn't display correctly pre update (part of the app name was cut off) that now display fine post update.
I think the speaker sounds a lot better, it's certainly louder.

Yup I think it was something they introduced in 2.3.2 if I remember. People didn't like it on the Nexus One.. LOL. For me, I am blind and can't tell the difference
After exhaustive research ( one day ) on the internet, i have conclusive proof about the "more vivid screen".
it is actually an illusion caused by childish exhuberance, joyfully tearfull eyes and the rose coloured glasses that all of us gingerbread recipriants now have.
