HTC Sensation - Reviews

Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
Where are they?

The phone is released in 2 days and i've yet to see a full blown proper review on the handset from any of the UK tech blogs. There's nothing.

With the SGS2 there was at least a couple of proper in-depth reviews before the phone was released. I'm quite surprised about this, i thought HTC would be on the ball.

The only 'review' i've seen so far is this but it's pretty generic:

Should you buy the HTC Sensation? Read our HTC Sensation review plus HTC Sensation reviews by users and find the best buy in the UK (Free HTC Sensation - 3, O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three, Vodafone)

If you see any reviews, please post them in this thread.

I'm not talking about hands on or first look reviews. I mean proper reviews with the finished article. The ones above i've already seen and are from weeks ago, but thanks anyway.

Give it three days I think. UK release on Vodafone is expected to be 19th. So many people will just get the phone. Let's hope one of the tech sites has pre-ordered it and give it an extra day to do the review and get it online. However they may have not ordered it and so we could be in the dark for a lot longer...

Still waiting for proper performance numbers...

As I said above.

Hands on previews are ok, but often use pre-release handsets, the Techradar piece has a couple of moans about the device, but says these are probably because it's a pre-release unit.

And that's the whole point; what if it's not because it's a pre-release unit, what if it does have one or two "issues"?

Surely HTC can get finished handsets to reviewers in time for the release; often it's all a consumer needs to make up their mind about getting one. We all like to have that extra bit of confidence when signing up to a long contract or shelling out

I asked one of the guys over at Electric Pig last week when they would put their HTC Sensation review up and he told me HTC hadn't sent any review units to UK press. I asked him again yesterday and he told me HTC STILL hadn't sent any review units to UK press!

That pretty much tells me all i need to know. HTC's marketing strategy completely sucks! They don't have a clue.

They just think the "looks" and sense 3.0 will save them. And to an extent for the "common" window shopper/consumer/people that don't really look into the phones before they by/forum people, they will get the sales. But it's just applying an Apple like strategy, where (they'll release a phone with fundamental signal issues) but they know it will sell, it doesn't matter. It's just so annoying... Exploitation of consumers.

i'd say for those of us that aren't common window shoppers but hangout in android forums instead, htc is betting on their reputation rather than the looks and sense

people who are interested in phones know that samsung can't write a working piece of code to save their lives and sony-ericsson never updates their phones, while htc probably has the overall best rep among android fans
and i don't remember htc releasing a phone with fundamental problems (unless you count poor battery life), while samsung's galaxy s has been reported to have quite a bit of problems with its gps

sure, that's pretty much apple's strategy as well, but what's so wrong with that?

Argh! I've spent all day trying to find out if any local stores have these in stock. I take it they have. I just wish they could put me through to a store rather than have to tangle with customer (no)service

went into one today (a smallish one) and picked up a mag, next to the counter that said "pick on up, exclusively today" And these mags were on show, so I'd assume they had it in stock.

Instead of hijacking this thread with constant talk about benchmarks maybe it would be constructive for one you to create a separate thread for this particular topic? (and move all these posts over to that thread) :) Maybe a mod can do this?

This thread really isn't the place and frankly you're taking over.

Apologies, you are 100% correct!

Moved off-topic posts to - http://androidforums.com/htc-sensation/340024-benchmarks-other-comparisons-impressions.html

And would recommend that as a good place for thoughts related to - but off-topic from - this thread.

yeah I saw this. I ended up skipping most of it. But tbh that's only because I've gotten used to samjpullen over the last 3 weeks (GSII and Sensation vids) in which he basically goes though EVERYTHING you'd want to know, and the small details and it's in 720p. so this didn't really compare.

If you have a better vid, please post it - samjpullen's are not that good (PM me for a thread on that), despite their acclaim in the SGS2 thead, but if there's one you'd recommend here, best to post it for all to see.

Full HTC Sensation review by SlashGear up now!

HTC Sensation Review - SlashGear

Great read but no clear winner between Sensation vs SGS2. Just both are excellent devices.

Neither is a bad device nor a bad choice; our gut reaction is to think of the Sensation as the consumer’s phone and the Galaxy S II as the Android fan’s phone. Broad brushstrokes do neither any great favors, though. HTC’s attitude to mods may dissuade the Android faithful, but those looking for a solid, well-designed smartphone with a premium feel and refined combination of hardware, software and services will be served excellently by the HTC Sensation.
